Wait a sec, Manny, that isn’t what the Church says either!
From the CCC:
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures.
Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians,
to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
The Church recognizes that the disorder is a disorder, but the ACT is what is sinful. She distinguishes between the two.
A person can be fully converted and yet still have to battle SSA. The Church offers no comment on the origin of homosexuality, so we cannot say that people choose to be homosexual (though we do say that they can choose to act or not act on those temptations). Some may well be born like that (and that would be God’s permissive will as opposed to His active will, as we know He doesn’t positively will disorder or sin or evil), they may grow like that as a result of bad environment (abuse, no positive males with whom to interact, etc., etc.), the Church doesn’t know. The Church also does not require repairative therapy, which works for some and doesn’t for others. She requires of them chastity and the taking up of their cross, uniting it to the Cross of Christ.
I knew a devout man who suffered with SSA. He said that he knew there was something different about him even when he was a child, before he ever had a word to put to it. He didn’t choose it, he HATED it. He begged God to let him be straight, but he never was “straightend out.” He just decided to live in chastity.
