Let me get this straight. You have a perfect right to walk into a Catholic church and judge who is and is not a “true follower of Christ” based on a thirty-second interaction, even the priests and the nuns, but if my path to my belief doesn’t meet your standards, then I have no right to uphold it? And this is compassion, open-mindedness, and common sense?

Behold, the Voice of Tolerance, 2015. I think our work is done here.
Judging someone is not Love. Using god to your opinion is not truth. I am not using my opinion. Im using moral conduct of spirituality which can be 88009% more time proven to be close than jesus that the catholic path

Well actually it does but I imagine this isn’t on topic. You are right that there is a desperate need for qualified foster parents, particularly for special needs children. My point was not that gays and Lesbians always make bad parents but that they can never provide an optimal situation. Further your anecdote was this oh so wonderful everything is perfect scenario as if this were the norm for gay couples. In fact it is not and there are many pathologies associated with being gay from STDs to substance abuse to mental illness to suicide that are far higher in the gay community.

Do you argue the point that the optimal situation for any child is with his biological mommy and daddy?

If for whatever reason the biological parents are unable to parent is the next best scenario a married couple?

If neither is available then evaluate the potential situation in light of what’s in the best interest of the child…single male or female, same sex couple…,whatever offers the next best situation taking into account the needs of the child first and any selfish desires on the part of the adults as secondary.

Do you disagree?
In case you didnt know, straight people contain more STD’s than LGBT’s. Thats using discrimination and judging , not the Jesus way. Also, proven in the psychological perspective, LGBT FAMILIES are more caring towards the family concept

You seem to be the world’s greatest expert on your own opinion but your opinions are not founded in facts, theology, history, the Bible, the Magisterium or the Catechism. You have consulted a moral code of ‘spirituality’ whatever that might be and it seems to be little more than checking your own pulse so to speak and pontificating away. Why not provide a source of your argument other than an unsubstantiated opinion?

You are also being disrespectful in not capitalizing references the Jesus or God. You claim to be a Buddhist and I would always capitalize any reference to The Buddha even though I am certainly not a practitioner of this faith.

Also,I didnt step in to the catholic church. I stepped into forums.catholic-questions.org. Fall back with all that pettiness. Whats more important , being happy and peaceful or worshiping peoples ideas to change yourself? Im a buddhist. Got tired of being brainwashed. Isnt raising kids in immoral gay relationships as bad as growing up kids in judging people, take a book written over 3500 years ago opinion over theres? No selfawareness.

Disrespectful? I did not recieve special intruction from god on my iphone to understand that not capitalizing a name is disrespect. I dont need history. The bible thay was edited planty of times. If jesus died a jew, why do you have to be christian and follow the pope? No sense. I can back up what i say though

Also, buddhism isnt faith as yous practice. Buddha wasnt a god and no one worshipes him as a god. Claim to be buddhist? I live in a buddhist temple in philadelphia studying to become a monk. I got shocked when i came to a website representing christ and said in a discussion tha a guy should take the buddha statue that was given to him and spit on it and burn it. Sounds like anti-christ to me and judging and questioning families because theyre “playing god”. WHAT THE HELL IN THIS WORLD DO YOU THINK YOU COMPREHEND WHAT GOD WANTS AND JUDGE PEOPLE.

Sir, I mean that you literally wrote: “If I walk into a Catholic church, With a Boyfriend , kissing and holding hands and a priest/nun or lay has a discriminated comment, they are not true followers of Christ. Christ taught love thy neighbor.

You described yourself as strolling into a Catholic church and making it your business to decide who would automatically fail to rate your Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval as a “true follower of Christ” and who exhibited a love of neighbor that met your standard of judgment, all based on your interpretation of one interchange.

Your words, not mine.

And friend–you say you are no follower of Christ yourself, but a Buddhist! Why is it some insult to say a Catholic doesn’t follow Christ, when you have given up following Christ yourself? If you’re going to follow the Buddha, follow the Buddha! Take somebody’s wisdom and do something with it! Release the grip, friend. Release! You may have walked out of the Church, but you haven’t let go of what you say drove you out of it. Until you do that, you’ll never be in and you’ll never be out. It will be your own personal Hotel California. Nobody wants that for you.

Anything that says homosexuality is anything but a good is thing did not come from the bible or Jesus…It seema that the catholic church has a lot to learn about life and openmindedness
Is it only open minded if someone shares your opinion?

Can you please tell us a positive good to come of genital contact between two men?

Apart from every major world religion, for thousands of years, being in agreement that homosexual sex is immoral, I can cite a great deal of medical research that has found that active homosexual men had a lifespan of 42 years. I can personally attest to a good friend dead of AIDS–a disease he would not have had, but for homosexual activity and a typical homosexual lifestyle.

Yes, I would say this is anything but good, without any reference to the Bible.

Isn’t it funny how children who love their parents beg them to quit smoking, siblings beg siblings to quit drinking or doing drugs, and parents who love their children don’t allow them to ride without seat belts, because of the risk of a life cut shorter than it would have been. I would say, therefore, that encouraging a behavior that cuts the lifespan by far more is the real cruelty. To deny that this is true is the real close-mindedness.

How is it that liberals cry out about the gay men’s health crisis at the same time they deny that homosexual activity has any negative health effects???

Deviant? So a couple whos comfortable with who they are, doing great things, and being loved by god is deviant behavior? What makes you so close to god to have a right into opposing and questioning people happiness?
Sodomy is not a ‘great thing.’ As cited in my post above, it has negative health effects. The fact that every major world religion for thousands of years has unanimously condemned it might suggest there’s reason to think it has negative spiritual effects, too.

It should be striking how many people active in the homosexual lifestyle have traumas and abuse in their childhood. Studies show they’re depressed and suicidal at higher rates, and to blindly suggest that’s because not enough people approve of their sexual conduct is a completely unsupported guess. It might also be because they’re suffering from traumas that have also led to SSA. It might be because they’re not following God’s will for their lives. It might be because all the major world religions KNEW something, and knew that indiscriminate sexual activity (whether it’s promiscuity, homosexuality, pre-marital sex, whatever) DOES impact our soul, because sex is a powerful activity.

You are trying to say that if a person does X, Y, Z well and with love, then by definition, the A, B, C that they do must also be good. This is an obvious fallacy.

I believe in christ. I belive in every teacher. I have so much thread to curse you the hell out but buddhism has taught me that the uneducated undercome their own suffering so let it be. No body wants to be in that brainwashing church. You clearly dont know what buddhism is by making that statement. sma

Are you aware that Buddhism is also opposed to homosexuality? Have you heard the Dalai Lama on the subject?

Your comment regarding the statue of the Buddha is irrelevant.

You also don’t understand the concept of judging as Christ explained it. We do not judge the state of one’s soul but we DO judge actions. There is nothing positive that comes of homosexual activity. This doesn’t mean the persons engaged in this aberrant behavior are intrinsically bad or evil but they are engaged in a gravely sinful act. Aside from the theology, biology and medical science is awash with evidence that the consequences of this behavior are very damaging to the body and based on the greater extent of mental illness, suicide and substance abuse, damaging to the mind and mental state as well.

I know a number of Buddhists. My Spiritual Director, a Catholic priest was raised a Buddhist. He would be in sharp disagreement with your interpretation of Buddhism. I am not sure whether what you are supposedly learning at this monastery is actually Buddhist.

Your rudeness and utter lack of any shred of respect for those who have a differing opinion from yours ( not to mention your questionable knowledge of Buddhism)makes me call BS on you “studying to become a monk”. You’re a garden variety troll on this forum just looking to agitate.

This is part of the problem. There are those who refuse to allow an honest discussion on the topic. I know of some women I really like a lot, who are lesbians living together. In one case, they raised a boy together. But I also know of people raised by homosexual parents, who talk about the constant stream of partners in and out–something more common in the typical homosexual lifestyle, which is prone toward great promiscuity, than in a single parent house hold.

This is not ‘discrimination.’ It’s stating a fact, just as stating that smoking increases the risk of lung cancer is a fact, not ‘discrimination’ against smokers.

You have done quite a bit of judging in this thread, continually calling others small-minded and other negative terms. I think that when every major world religion for thousands of years is unanimous in condemning a certain behavior, there might be a strong case for thinking that is the actual correct spiritual truth. Did they ALL get it wrong??? REALLY???

I’m sorry, this is simply not true.

You talk about how peaceful you are, and apparently kinder, and yet you continually judge and criticize others, call them small minded and suggest they’re ‘brain washed’ and have no self awareness, for…having a different view than yourself.

Given all I’ve read, many living the homosexual lifestyle aren’t all that happy. From all I’ve seen on my liberal friends’ facebook pages, or in ‘gay pride’ parades, and in lawsuits trying to destroy people, neither are they peaceful.

I hope you find the peace you’re looking for.

I have to agree. While I may not agree theologically with Buddhism, I have respect for Buddhist monks and can’t imagine a real Buddhist monk, or even someone studying to become one, EVER speaking to others the way this poster does.

Are you aware thats only tibetan buddhism and he is a human, nothing more? Buddhism is equality. Male , female , dog , tree, we are all energy beings. Me, including many sangha members to not look up to that tradition of buddhism. I am bisexual. I know, buddha , jesus, and the great spirit love me for who i am, and always will. How is nothing good from it? Happiness, peace, enjoyment and acceptance and growing come from homosexuality. Sexuality are like trees. Not matter what kind or what it produces, its still the same species

Of course Jesus loves you. He loves all of us. This doesn’t mean he approves of every single one of our behaviors.

I am very close to someone whose father was adopted, and even he has questions and some feelings about that fact. I think plenty of adopted children have lots of questions, sense of loss, wondering why they were given up, knowing nothing about their genetics, etc.
I’m sure they do. But let’s think about this: they’re probably not mourning their biological parents as much as they are wondering about them.

There are unanswered questions, I’m sure, but I think that adopted children have figured out that their current adoptive parents have been able to give them a better opportunity than their biological parents.

coming in late to this one…

I appreciate everyone who advocated for families of all varieties.

Many years ago I had a friend who fostered babies who were born drug addicted. She was a single woman and her and a close (woman) friend did this together. They were not lesbians. My friend wound up adopting to of the kids and later on got married and her husband adopted them. I considered her family a family at each stage of the process.

It is uncharitable to want to tell someone they are not part of a family. I grew up with a mom and dad and kids but my mom was severely mentally ill. This was not an ideal family. Ideal family life is in the Garden of Eden. It is insulting to say someone’s family is ideal and someone else’s in not. The gospel is not about who is better or first.
Thank you for your post. Everyone on this thread needs to read this.
