Can a kid get 1st reconciliation before baptism?

This is NOT always the case. It is much more common in the Eastern Rites of the Church, and much LESS common in the Latin Rite.

It also depends on when this occurred. I was baptized on a Saturday afternoon (I was 13) with only my sponsor and the Priest present. The next morning, I just went up to Communion with everyone else. Two weeks later, I was confirmed at the Cathedral, along with all of the other teens. This happened in 1957.

That would have been before the current code of canon law.

An “infant” in the Church is one who has not reached the age of reason. Only infants are supposed to receive Baptism apart from the other Sacraments of initiation. That is not to say that some priest doesn’t deviate from the rules, but that’s the way it is supposed to be.
