Can a miscarried baby be aborted?

When I was one, my mother had a miscarriage. When I asked her where my baby sister’s body is buried, she answered that she had a D&C (abortion procedure!) to get rid of the baby’s body since she and my dad decided that she wouldn’t be able to handle it emotionally if she delivered the little body at home. She said they are sure there was no heartbeat. I am seriously worried about my mother. Can you explain how (if?) this is immoral?

If I understand the situation correctly, your baby sister died in utero and your mother had a dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure to remove the body. If this is the case, then your mother did not have an abortion. Your mother’s doctor apparently did not perform an abortion that killed a child, but used a surgical procedure to remove an already deceased child from her womb. This is sometimes done in cases of stillbirth when the woman’s body does not expel the dead child on its own. If the baby was already dead, then there was no harm done to the baby by the D&C, and the choice to evacuate the womb at the hospital rather than wait for labor to start naturally at home was a legitimate option.
