HomeschoolDad:
Your guess is as good as mine. I think it’s a great discussion.
I agree. This thread is so engaging it is hurting my productivity.
Heh, I’m enjoying it too. I misunderstood Homeschool Dad’s OP, and I’m happy to have found that out. 🙂

I’m not saying that opposite sex friendships can’t harm one’s marriage. But the idea that they inevitably will is silly,
There is nothing silly about guarding my marriage. I avoid close friendships with men for two reasons: one, I do not think it is right to emotionally invest myself in another man–all that energy is for my husband; nor do I believe it is right to have any other man emotionally invested in me. This does not mean I refuse to talk with men, but I never meet male friends solo or talk at length on the phone with them. Second, I would never, ever want to give any notion of impropriety or put an inkling of doubt in my husband’s mind as to my loyalty. You may think this is silly. I have twenty years of a deeply rewarding and vibrant marriage as evidence otherwise. Marriage is a million small and large sacrifices; giving up close male friendships to the exclusion of one man is a sacrifice I’ve been willing to make. I’ve lost a great deal in my life and have suffered much, but my marriage and children have made every second of it worth it and if my only accomplishment is to have a wonderful marriage and children, I’ll consider my life very well lived.

Anyway, this thread will be closed in 40 minutes. If anyone has anything else to add, speak now or forever hold your peace.

If not, is this this point where we start polluting the thread with gifs to the bitter end?
