Can a muslim be a member of a communist party? Would that make the muslim an apostate?

There have been and currently are many, many Communist and Communist-leaning parties in the Middle East. Here is a list of them from Wikipedia.
Given the religious demographics of the Middle East, it is safe to assume that there are Muslims in all of them…well, except for the Hebrew Communists!

In a book I have on Islamic philosophy it says that there are some contemporary movments in Islamic thought that are communist. I will try to find some links.

It makes sense, but as both of the replies imply, there are muslims who are communist/marxist or whose islamist politics accept the socialist/anti-captialist attitudes. Anahita Ratebzad was a Marxist and female diplomat prior to the Taliban. I don’t find a reference that she or any other Afghan communist was declared apostate.

A Christian could be a communist, in the purely economic sense of the word. I once remember my old, very conservative Protestant Pastor, saying to me that he thought Communism was God’s idea.
He quoted, “From every man according to ability; to every man according to need”. He then added, “It’s got an almost Biblical ring about it”.
But he then went on to say, “But the devil knew it was coming, and got hold of it first.”
And he was the last man I thought would say so. He was conservative to his bootstraps, and had nothing but loathing for Josef Stalin and the like. He met Richard Wurmbrand, the tortured Romanian Jewish Christian pastor, on a number of occasions, and stated it was his privelege to do so. I heard Bishop Fulton Sheen state he also knew Mr. Wurmbrand on a DVD I’ve got, so my old pastor and Bishop Sheen had that much in common.
After all, Marx was a Jew, Christ was a Jew, Einstein was a Jew. When God wants to author world changing ideas or movements, He often uses Jews. But we forget that the devil exists also, and there’s a war on.
So what was basically meant to be an economic system with an egalitarian ethos become an atheist system of immense cruelty, brutality and stupidity. The devil got hold of it.

All evil is allowed by God. And it is God himself who place’s a definative limit on evil. In human history we encounter God at the start who judges and then punishes in the Garden.
And that penalty has been prolonged throughout human history. Sin is a inherited condition. Man has the right of free-will to refuse God, and when he does he then chose’s a different path in his destiny, the same ultimate destiny which is designed,incouraged and enforced by God.
Sin brings man to his lower state, and it then forces him away from the completeness which is his to obtain. The higher calling and the deeper misery men experience find their final explanation in the truth of this revelation.
If we look closely at any evil in mans history, there also we find the victory of Christ on the Cross. And to those subjected to systematic evil, all that remains is Christ on the Cross as a promise of victory. The world is redeemed by God.
The only question can be is how long? And that can be answered by man himself in how long he will refuse to come into communion with God. Man brings this on himself. And even at this point the wisdom and mercy of God cannot be underestimated. If we look closely as the societys which the presence of evil was allowed to escalate? There to we find an almost complete surrender to the will of God. Look at Poland its a perfect example. Had that chaos happened in the US? I can’t honestly state that we would have survived it. The US didn’t avoid evil because its so well ran, it avoided evil because God so chose it to be. With good reason I might add.
I see a different problem with evil today. Today it is now on the world stage. And now were not just playing for this country or that country but for all the marbles. And thats the feeling you hear constantly when people correctly state yet can’t identify the issue. “Something is going on, something is going to happen” darn right something is wrong, I assure you its not aliens, nor 2012 and the Mayan prophecy. Its the struggle of good and evil which is now prevalant world wide. Mass Media constantly brings it to attention in areas like Korea, Cuba, Islam, slavery of caste in China etc, and man constantly struggles with his own morals in his conscious mind. And God constantly reminds man of His choice and His hand remains extended, but for how long? And how many more must suffer in the war of good and evil. The ultimate war starts in the individual mind of every soul. How long should man ignore all those enslaved by evil? Maybe its was easy to ignore when technology of man was not so advanced. Today its not so easy to ignore the truths of mankind.
We create an illusion in the media also, for example with the cruelty of animals which is advertised and televised daily. You all see it daily. Well how about the cruelty to mankind, how about we correct that, and then the problem with cats and dogs will cease to exist. A consequence of the bigger issue.
“Communism and Islam” is like asking which seat you prefer on the Titantic. Any religion which cannot accept all as equal to each other regardless of ethnic, race, social political or physical limits, must then become some form of evil empire which kills all which it deems “Not Like Us”. So if we start with the Jews, then the Christians, well whos next? Of course why stop there, we might as well include Buddists, Hindus, Atheists, Pagans, the Poor and Handicap. And when all is finally eliminated, well then we shall start the clean-up within ourselves and decide which in inferior and doesn’t deserve life. And there Slavery becomes the norm also.
Such a wonderful plan for a society, who thought of it, satan?
