I Know this Lovely lady who just passed away, who is going to be buried out of the catholic Church, Mass & all. She is not catholic, Is this permissable, Just curious

I think that this is permitted with the permission of the bishop for a person who for some reason cannot be buried from his own church. An example might be a person who was married to a Catholic and attended Mass, but who had never formally converted. I was present at the funeral for the father of a priest who was a protestant which was held in a Catholic church. The gentleman had attended Mass with his wife, but had never become a Catholic. The bishop himself was there, along with a large number of priests from our diocese.

The Daughter of this lady told me that she went to the church & explained that tho her Mother wasnt catholic, she raised her children catholic, and asked the priest if it was possible that her Mother could be buried out of the church, The priest reply was I see no reason why we cant. Thank You for your reply Marysann
