It’s, for the most part, the Truth. God made the promise that the church would not fail and that the spirit would lead her into all truth. He didn’t promise that he would make sure we always had the very best prime minister. He just promised that no matter how bad the guy was at his Job, he will never run the church into the ground or preach error as dogma. (See the structure of the Davidic kingdom for more information on why I call the pope the prime minister.)

The Pope is not chosen by God. While God chooses to allow Popes to be elected, as he chooses to allow all things to happen, it is up to the cardinals to follow God’s direction when it comes time to vote. The Cardinals could very well choose a man who is not as well fitted for the job as another, and perhaps even one that was not in God’s will. This is a big reason of why we pray for the election of a new Pope; we aren’t praying that God will make the right choice, but that the Cardinals will be sensitive to God’s decision and cooperate with his counsel.

As for whether or not the Pope can be deposed: No.
I did not mean that literally, but I accept the correction. 🙂

I t should be received well, because that is the Catholic teaching, on the other hand there is no teaching that states that God chooses the Roman Bishop, he is elected by the Cardinals, or some other process, plain and simple.

As to the OP, yes I believe based on history and the many examples we have, a Pope could theoretically be deposed.

The role of the Pope, in so far as his temporal duties are concerned, isn’t critical to the functions of the Church. If a Pope were in some way incapacitated, or in captivity, the life of the Church would obviously keep moving on. The cardinals, the bishops, the patriarchs, the priests, the deacons, the laity…they would all do whatever they always do.

As far as the Church being protected from heretical doctrine, that is the work of the Holy Spirit (acting through Peter). God cannot fail.

Popes have been in situations of being incapacitated or in captivity on many occasions. In the events leading up to the Great Schism, the Pope at the time was warring with the Normans and had been in captivity (and he died in captivity).

But what happens in the case that he is incapacitated and refuses or is unable to abdicate?

Similar question: In the U.S., when a chief executive of a government (U.S. President or state governor) is incapacitated (goes under general anesthesia, for example) his/her second-in-command assumes the office until he/she regains consciousness.

Is there a similar provision for the Papacy?
I’d expect it would work like a sede vacante - things would keep going in a “holding pattern” for the remainder of the Pope’s life, but any decisions or appointments that can be made only by the Pope would be put on hold until he died, and a new Pope was elected.

Pope Francis Antipope of History? Pope Francis does not appear to have the Catholic Faith. As one non-Catholic religion reporter states: “the Pope ‘does not do God,’ and he has a real problem with Catholicism.” He appears to be a member of 2 organizations that seek to subvert the Catholic Church: Freemasonry and Socialism. He also appears to be a homosexual.

My personal belief is that he is a Trojan Horse sent on a mission by Freemasonry and/or International Socialism to infiltrate and destroy the Catholic Church as it is, in order to use its organization as the hub for a new world religion. This will be in affiliation with the emerging Socialist one world government.

My article Pope Francis Antipope of History? is published on one of my websites called RosesFromHeaven.com . You can also view my new 13-minute YouTube.com video under the same name Pope Francis Antipope of History? You can also print a copy of this article in pdf format: Pope Francis Antipope of History?

My solution to this problem: He must be removed as Pope as soon as possible. Only an official Church body like the College of Cardinals or even a selected body of Cardinals and Bishops can do that.
There is no time to waste. A coalition of those willing to press for his removal must be organized without delay. We must contact the Cardinals and Bishops to have Pope Francis’ election declared null and void, and then proceed with a new Conclave, or even return Pope Benedict XVI to the Chair of Peter. That will be up to the high clergy to decide what would be the correct decision to make.
Those wishing to act as a pressure group to get the Hierarchy to take action against Pope Francis should complete the Contact Form on the last page of this website.
I will be personally be in touch with you to elaborate on a specific plan of action to clamor for Pope Francis’ removal.
