Can a Pope teach or commit heresy?

I am emphatically stating that no Pope can teach heresy, and no Pope can commit apostasy or heresy or schism. Also, each Ecumenical Council and the body of Bishops dispersed in the world have the same protections, by the grace of God.

I think you are pointing out, Blue Horizon, that the opposite view, that a Pope might teach or commit heresy, causes us to doubt Councils, their teachings, past Popes. The end result is that the surety of the Faith is lost.

Many Catholics have proposed that a Pope might hypothetically teach or commit heresy. But I don’t think God ever allows it, because the salvation of souls and the indefectibility of the Church depend in the faithfulness of each Pope.

My parents weren’t indefectible but I regard them as being very loyal and faithful parents despite the few mistakes they made along the way.
