Can a priest choose which clothes to wear during Mass?

On the other hand if it is bitterly cold you can wear a big thick fleece underneath?
I would certainly hope so. In my experience most churches don’t have the heat turned on early enough for it to be warm when people arrive. It’s especially noticeable when the outside temp gets down to 15 F. Even bundled up I’m cold by the time I get inside.

I once read a criticism of those who keep their coats on during Mass instead of being good guests & removing their coats. If the host (priest) won’t turn on the heat, I’m keeping my coat on! Sometimes I’ve had to keep my coat on in early Spring or Autumn because the air conditioning is set too high - and way too early.

I would suspect that some sort of workout or sports gear (like UnderArmour) made for heat would be good in this situation. My brother has a long-sleeved fishing shirt that can double as a dress shirt! Some of the newer materials are ‘moisture wicking’ and do keep you fairly cool. I’m pretty sure some of the younger priests may do this already!
