As it has been explained to me, during the Mass, the priest only consecrates the amount of bread and wine he intends to. If wine outside the chalices has been left on the altar, this does not become the Precious Blood, because the priest does not intend to consecrate it.
Could a priest who knew that a member of his congregation was in a state of mortal sin, but who also suspected this person would come up to receive Holy Communion, choose to leave one of the hosts in the paten unconsecrated, simply by willing it to be so?
Would this be possible? If so, would it be licit? If not, why not, as the priest in so doing is preventing someone from making a blasphemous communion?
