Can a Protestant be a godparent for my child?

Hi There
I am baptising my baby on the 16th september, i am a regular mass goer myself and want my baby brought up as cathloic however my partner is protestant and wonders could he pick a lad to be the babys godfather who is protestant and never attends service.
