Can a single mother become a nun?

if you could help me know if a single mother can become a nun. I know a friend who shows deep interest in becoming a nun but she has a son and she was never married as she left her partner after thing didnt go well with him. Now the child is 6 years old.

Dear friend,

She already has a vocation; she is a mother of a child who needs her. No religious order would receive her with a young child. Her focus needs to be on him until he is old enough to not need her as he does now. She may certainly join a lay third order, such as the Dominicans or Carmelites. But her focus for now must be on being a mother.
