I saw this somewhere from paranormal documentary. I remember the exorcist says souls šŸ‘» from purgatory can return to the living to ask for their prayer. What about hell šŸ”„ ? Can the souls in hell ask for prayers from the living also? Just curious. šŸ¤”

Stop watching paranormal things. They are against our Catholic faith.

I will suggest reading the diary of one of our greatest modern saints. Saint Faustina

Ohā€¦ I know her šŸ˜Š and I enjoyed reading her diary. I also enjoyed St Catherine letters as well as St Louis De Montfortā€™s book. I watched paranormal videos just for fun.

That fun letā€™s the door open to those fallen angels. And we are told not to, by God.

There are stories of the saints being visited by souls from Purgatory. St. Faustina is one of them.

I donā€™t know about anyone asking for prayers from Hell.

Imagine someone from HELL visits you! Iā€™d run for my life. Lol! šŸ¤£
Ummā€¦Yeah!

I think that you and I would be running a race for the nearest exit! šŸ˜‰

Purgatory, yes. Hell, no.

There are a number of stories about Catholic saints, people on the path to sainthood, and other Catholics not currently on the path to sainthood, involving souls from Purgatory coming to ask them for prayers. Padre Pio reportedly had many such experiences. These experiences fall in the category of private revelation, which means that they are not part of the official teaching of the Church and Catholics are not required to believe the private revelations of these persons who supposedly were visited by souls from Purgatory.

Souls from Hell would not be coming to ask for prayers because when you are in Hell, prayers arenā€™t going to help you. Youā€™re in Hell and thatā€™s it. Youā€™re not getting out no matter who prays for you. There are a couple of old tales about souls from Hell coming back to warn others to reform so they wouldnā€™t end up in Hell. Again, these stories are not part of official Church teaching.

We donā€™t typically see ā€œspiritsā€, including of our dead relatives. I would certainly hope you are not calling up your dadā€™s spirit, because we are not supposed to ever call up the dead.

Having said that, if God wanted to, he could put your dad in touch with you briefly if it were necessary, such as in a time of great difficulty for you. It is up to God.

If you did think you saw a ā€œspiritā€, then praying for the person would be a healthy response in any event. If the person themself is not in need of the prayers, God would apply the prayers elsewhere.

If your father is deceased you should be praying for him frequently in any event, whether you see his spirit or not.

The Rosary is a wonderful prayer for any need.
However, any sincere prayer, whether itā€™s a formal prayer like the Rosary or the Divine Mercy or the ā€œEternal rest grant unto my father, O Lordā€¦ā€ , or just something free form like ā€œDear God, please help my father get to heaven if heā€™s in Purgatoryā€, will work fine.

As a child, I was taught that whenever I pray, when I make the closing sign of the cross, I add at the end, ā€œJesus have mercy on the souls in purgatory and the souls on earthā€, so we are praying for the souls in Purgatory throughout the day since normally we would pray several times a day before driving the car, grace before meals, and at bedtime.

You can say special Rosaries for the Poor Souls in Purgatory that have a purgatory prayer at the start of each decade. If you Google, you can find these online. I note some of them add an extra decade to the Rosary (six decades instead of five).

The Divine Mercy is considered to be a good prayer for souls both living and dead. The ā€œEternal Rest grant unto them O Lordā€¦ā€ prayer is traditional Catholic. I usually say it when I pass a cemetery or hear of a death.

Offering a Mass for a deceased person is considered to be the best prayer you can make. You can go and request a Mass intention at your church (usually there is a stipend involved) or you can just go to Mass yourself and receive Communion with the intention of offering your Holy Communion and Mass attendance, yourself personally for one or more deceased souls. Like I just go to Mass and mentally pray, ā€œLord, I am offering my Holy Communion today for the souls of my husband and Uncle Jā€.

You can also get a plenary indulgence for your dadā€™s soul.

This person isnā€™t Catholic yet. Canā€™t get the indulgences yet.

Be aware of seeing spirits. They are most likely demons trying to trick you. Ignore them.
Say begone satan. Blessed Be God for ever, help me Jesus.

Me too. Great thinking.

We best explain how indulgences work

I just let Fr. Heilman explain these things for me.

The Plenary Indulgence, if done correctly, is a total remission of the temporal punishment of purgatory for the soul to whom it is applied. If not done correctly it will be partial, but we donā€™t know how much partial - could be 99.9 percent, so we just do our best.
You can only get one Plenary Indulgence a day. You can keep it for yourself or give it to a poor soul in purgatory.
The Indulgence is granted by the Church, so you have to be a Catholic to get one (also to receive the Holy Communion and go to Confession, which are necessary to fulfill the conditions).

More explanation here

(He recommends you choose a saint to pray with you - I note this is an optional step that he added. The Church doesnā€™t require you to choose a saint to pray with you.)

Some people had/have the ability to see different spirits and to discern spirits, such as the holy saints.

Not all of the spirits were demonic, although some were. We can read about these experiences that the saints have had with souls visiting them from Purgatory, asking the saints to pray for them so that these souls could be released from Purgatory into Heaven.

If someone thinks that they are seeing spirits, then the best thing to do is to seek counsel from a Priest/their Pastor.

God bless you. šŸ™‚
