Hi, im Ukranian catholic and was woundering can we join the KC. I was just woundering since we dont have parishes in the RC rite. My eastern church does not have a council. It has a society but almost all of the members are old men I think the youngest ones 40 something, I just feel that their really isnt a future for it their have been no new members for ages. I also think when you join a organization/club you should do so to connect with others your own age and thats half the fun. The local KC has alot of younger members as well as old. Also, no other Ukranian church in my eparchy have their own society they all belong to the KC.Is it okay to join, what do you think?

The local Knights of Colombus go to our parish on occasions that they are needed. I saw photos of H.B. Lubomyr’s visit 3 years ago and the KofC were there. And this past week we had a funeral for a priest and the KofC where there too. If they attend Ukrainian ceremonies, why not a Ukrainian Catholic join them?

Yes you can join the KofC. The requirement is to be a Catholic man. The rite doesn’t matter.

I wrote a huge “rant”, but decided not to polute your question with banter that will take your post in directions not useful for you.

I would simply post your question here to ask the KC directly:

Good Luck and God Bless 👍

I don’t understand what you mean when you say your church does not have a council but it has a society. Councils are the individual, usually parish-based units of the Knights. We do not formally use the word “society” for any particular grouping of Knights.

Anyway, I highly recommend that you join! It will be an excellent opportunity for you to grow in your faith and serve your community. You say there are no young people involved, but someone has to break the ice! If you are bold enough to step forward, then I imagine others might be happy to follow.

I am one of the younger members in my council, and I am 39 years old. My brother Knights continually express gratitude to me for my work and they say that people like me are the future of the council. I was also a bit shy to join at first, because I was not sure if I would fit in, but I promise you that it has enriched my life, and I wish I had joined sooner.

Is any eastern catholic on this forum a member?
Yes. It’s caused a few problems. Like having to have the retention committee go talk to the archdiocesan vicar general… because, quite simply, they wouldn’t accept that it was a catholic parish. I’m one of two KofC in the parish… and the other is in a different council.

The 4th degree Assembly, I’ve not been to a meeting in years. I pay my dues (and my insurance).

The biggest problem has been the change from two councils to 6… the local council is almost entirely focused upon the local parish now. And I’m not a member of that parish. Not even nominally, since St. Nick has personal parish status for Romans.
