*Yeah, I think that’s great Pilgrim…I think whatever works. It’s just my opinon, and growing up with…’‘good Catholic girls don’t chase boys…’’ and that then converted to…’‘women don’t ask out men…’’ which in turn translates yet again to…’‘men should propose marriage.’’ lol But, I think your scenario is not what we’re actually talking about here…you and your dh at that time, had conversations leading up to it. Not like the scenario that Jay shared where the girl proposed in public, and the guy looked like a deer in the headlights…that to me is not how it should be. I think probably we could assess on a case by case basis. 😃

Have a blessed Easter…and thanks for chatting with me.*

Not a moral or religious issue at all.

But I DO think that today, more than ever, ladies should expect (perhaps demand) that the guy do the proposing. Men today are the wimpiest guys in perhaps a millenia and yet they often have the most monstrous of egos. If he simply isn’t willing to risk that ego and face the chance of rejection, he’s not going to be a good husband. IMO, the same goes for dating!

Make us man up, ladies! (Easy for me to say, I’m married. But I did it the hard/right way!) As for you men, don’t be such wusses. Ask her out. Poor baby, she might say no! To your surprise, you will survive.
No. EGO? NO, NO, and NOOO. Women need to feel what it is like to get rejected too. I as a man have already had my share of offering flowers, asking them out and other ridiculous squawk of the sort etc.,etc., etc…only to get NOTHING, nothing, absolutely nothing in return. Maybe it is time for me to have the chance to smell the flowers…and toss them into the dumpster…even better, before her very eyes. I humbly pray that God will someday give me my chance. I pray that someday I will be the one who gets the choice.

Women today on one hand want the chance to be equal members of society, and rightly so…and still expect men to hold the doors open for them…or in my case, have the right to walk first before me on the trail. Which way is it???:mad:

A blessed Pascha to you all.

Expecting chivalry means a woman can’t be an equal member of society???
WHAT?

Your post reeks of bitterness. I’m so sorry that you have a broken heart and been rejected, but thats also what Christ went through.

I am an equal member of society and I expect men to be gentleman and hold the door. It’s not an either/or choice.

You can expect all you want…doesn’t mean you will get it.

THis is your response? How bout something substantial? Your post made no sense.

BTW, for the most part, men are gentleman around me and hold the door. I am gracious and say thank you. That doesn’t mean I am any less than an “equal member of society”

That is my final reply…I’ll make no other to this thread.

*We want our cake and we want to eat it too…so what? 😃 (Kidding ;))

First of all, I’m sorry if someone hurt you…you have a tone of anger. Not all women throw flowers away…what a jerk she was, if I might say so? I think you need to know that there are lots of wonderful women in the world, who would love for a guy to be traditional, and chivalrous. I know it’s hard to see that maybe right now…but just trust me …they’re out there*.

I agree. If a woman wants to marrty me, she will have to buy me a nice ring.
*It’s funny you say this…my son asked the other day…’‘why can’t men wear rings during an engagement?’’ I said, they probably can…

Haven’t thought about it much. :ehh:*

I think the Irish have those rings that show a heart pointing inward or outward. I’d like to wear one of those if I get engaged. The weave rings they have are amazing!

Ooh, I like those, too! Never had one myself, but they are beautiful. I know in some other countries (I think some of the Scandinavian countries?) men and women both wear plain bands during engagement. I read that the woman will get a wedding band that is fancier, maybe with gems, and the man will maybe get an engraving on his band for the wedding. So many different customs.

Wow, I feel sorry for that guy, being put on the spot with a public proposal. But you know what? I wouldn’t want a public proposal either. I don’t like being the center of attention…especially during a special, private moment like that.

You have a blessed Easter, too, Whatevergirl!

Wow, I am so sorry all of that happened to you. Obviously you haven’t met the right woman yet. Believe me, there are plenty of ladies who would NOT act that way. I would never be rude, and certainly would not toss away flowers. I think it takes courage to ask a woman out, to show interest…and I respect that even if it would be from a man I’m not interested in, or not sure if I am. (A moot point for me as I’m happily married, but I mean if I were single of course…)

On another note…if it’s not plain rudeness but the woman seems uninterested…don’t give up too quickly because some women are just shy. I tend to be, and when I was younger I was even moreso.

Don’t give up on all women just because you’ve been hurt by someone.

DH and I went shopping for rings together - one for him, and one for me, we each picked out our own ring. We flipped a coin to see who would propose first. He won, asked me, I said “yes”, and he put the ring on my finger - then I asked, he said “yes”, and I put on his ring. He still wears his engagement ring (on his right hand since we married).

Today is our 5th anniversary! 😃

ETA: Obviously, we discussed the engagement and getting married beforehand.

I must apologize. I still feel that it is possible for a woman to be the one to propose, but after considering my previous posts, I am pretty embarrased by them and believe that the tone could have been much better. Thank you for your patience.

A blessed Easter and Pascha to you all.

Oh my gosh, how adorable…the flipping of a coin. 😃
