Can abortion be forgiven?

Hello, I’ve recently started a relationship wig a girl I met years ago, and we now have something going. I am a Catholic and she was raised Catholic, but is not as religious no more. She recently told me she had an abortion in her previous relationship and feels terrible about it. She tells me she was forced to get it having her ex put ideas in her head while she wanted to keep the baby. I am torn knowing this has happened and I tell her to talk to a priest for confession and forgiveness but she thinks it will be pointless now that it’s happened. I am not sure what to do. Can I get some advice? Will this hurt our relationship? Can God punish us both if we ever plan on having kids?

God forgives anything if the person is repentant and that include abortion. God is love, He loves your girlfriend more than even her earthly parents. God wants nothing more than for her to return to His love and mercy. Please encourage her to seek out a priest that she feels comfortable with to go to confession to.
