The reasoning would be for the same reason that a man with deep seated homosexual attraction is not a proper candidate for the priesthood. Someone who claims to be “asexual” does not have a properly ordered sexuality. The reason, just like homosexuality, is not fully understood. It could be simply a repressed sexuality (psychological) or it could be something medical (hormonal). The Church needs healthy, whole men as priests.It’s not an oxymoron in this case, it just refers to someone who is not sexually attracted to other people (often they lack a sex drive at all). They are rare, but do exist. They are still male or female in other ways, but instead of being heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual, they are asexual.
I don’t see how lacking a sex drive would disqualify someone from being a preist.![]()
