No.
In any event a sin is a sin against God, elephants and everything else have no concept of God in the way that we have, I’m sure.

If you think about it how could an animal be guilty of a mortal sin anyway?
Could they have knowledge that some act is regarded as a sin? No. So sinning fails just on that one count.

Don’t ask about meerkats next please… 😉

But elephants honor their dead, seeming to imply a deeper understanding of something beyond their world…

I think they have ability to comprehend certain things. Check this one:

Seeming is the key word. I believe animals think, they are no more robots than we are but their brains are limited and so are their cognitive abilities.

No. I don’t believe animals can sin although that doesn’t stop a little person in our house from asking if he could take the dog to the Anglican church to get a blessing when they were doing pet blessings as a fundraiser. He then thought about it and said oh no I don’t want an Anglican doggy just a catholic one

According to Catholic theology, evolution may be true, but somewhere along the evolutionary line God made a distinction and endowed two humans with a human soul. So, what of the parents of these two human souls? Could they sin?

According to the theory of evolution, changes in species develop at an excruciatingly slow pace. Were the biological parents of the first two humans so different that they could not sin?

these are good questions which deserve a better answer than I can provide.

However @Wesrock may well be able to discuss this or perhaps @prodglArchitect might be interested to debate this further.

God bless.

@ATrai has asked more complex questions now, these require knowledge I don’t have.

I could be wrong, but I believe Catholic theology states that animals do have souls.

Yes, animals have souls, as do plants and rocks. They are not rational souls as only humans have that capacity.
