I’m just wondering why and what is the nature, of the liturgy’s importance during Mass?

It seems to be a topic of great controversy.

If memory serves me correct, the Pope said the crisis in the Church today is the crisis of the liturgy.

I won’t bore you with a War & Peace novel, but the reason boils down to the belief that if the liturgy isn’t taken importantly, the faithful would take a lousy approach with God and believe they could give God bare minimum during worship. In addition, a proper liturgy ensures discipline amongst the faithful is kept and avoids a “anything goes” mentality.

🙂

Why is the liturgy of the Mass so important?

It is the suffering lamb, Jesus, offered to the Heavenly Father for the sins
of the whole world, and the Father in return giving us a share in this suffering lamb,
his Son, to show his acceptance of our worthy offering. He is the one who
is really a true pleasing gift because it is his Son.

This sacred offering is introduced with bible readings and hymns, as well as prayers to
ready our souls for this divine event.

Everything sung, or done, must be holy to be worhy of the most holy One.
What is most HOLY is the controversy. What seems holy varies from person to person,
age to age, etc. The Church is dertemining this as best it can by assigning prayers and
actions.

Can you be more specific? The Mass is liturgy. . . .

The liturgy is so important because it is prayer. It is to give glory to God (in which Christ’s sacrifice is the glorious crown of it all) and is to assist us in disposing our intentions and feelings so that we may properly assist at this Holy Sacrifice and receive Our Lord. The Ordinary Form simply fails to excite any such dispositions with me for example.

This is why the liturgy is so important. It is prayer.

Lex orandi, lex credendi. The law of praying is the law of believing.

As we pray, so we believe.

OP, I suggest you really absorb this quote and its meaning. This is a great little phrase.

Yes it is. The principle has been expanded somewhat to “lex orandi, lex credendi, lex vivendi” (" how we worship reflects what we believe and determines how we will live. The law of prayer or worship is the law of life. Or, even more popularly rendered, as we worship, so will we live…and as we worship, so will will become."

Good question. I love the Liturgy and I immerse my heart and soul to it. The mysteries that its rituals unveil makes it all the more necessary in the comprehension of God’s revelation to us. To answer your question: The Liturgy is important because it is Christ’s action made present through the Church, for the Church, with the Church and it shows that God is real OBJECTIVELY.

In every Catholic church every single day, Time and Eternity meet in an extraordinary miracle in which God enters Time for us, again. There is nothing more important than that. The Mass is the greatest and most powerful prayer available to humankind.

This is God. If you were suddenly transported to Heaven and faced your Lord and your God what would you do?

It is believed that this is the way God wants to be worshiped. Liturgy is not just worship for an hour on Sunday or a specific amount set aside for God, it is reflected in creation itself, six days of creation with a seventh set aside to sanctify it and the festivals at different months and years for the nation of Israel. It was a living worship done externally that also foreshadowed the New Testament perfections of the old that we are to do both internally as well as externally.

All prayer is important.

Liturgy is a form of prayer that involves words (usually in formal language) actions and very often music. The Mass is liturgy whether it is a simple weekday Mass or a large gathering with processions, candles, bells and incense. Everything we do at Mass or at other liturgical ceremonies is a form of prayer we offer to God. Sometimes it’s easier to take part in ceremonies than to have a quiet chat.
