Can anyone reccommend good books on Marraige

Im 26 years old, and feel pretty sure that Im called to marraige, I have a huge desire to be both a wife and a Mom, Of course Im at that stage of waiting for Mr Right to show up, and more ofthen than not Im doing this very impatiently, Id like to read more about the vocation of marraige as a Catholic, Id like to read more about choosing whom to marry, dating as a Catholic or just any other marraige / dating related topics from a Catholic perspective,

Can anyone reccommend any good book?
 
Well, I don’t know if you’re an academic or have any interest/aptitude for philosophy or whatnot, but I found that reading Pope John Paul II’s book Love and Responsibility (second edition - 1984 - where a bunch of footnotes have become the new last chapter) very enlightening on the topic of marriage (and related topics), if dense. That said, I’m not married and I’m not discerning a vocation to marriage… though I was at the time that I read it.
 
i would start with the Bible. i know that may be a simple answer to a very important ?, read the verses that deals with marriage. hopefully you have a concordance or a topical bible guide. have a bible study! invite your friends that may be blessed by having the same problems discussed with each other.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but most everybody here has Ephesians 5 practically memorized. Scripture is a given, and by itself, it is not enough for serious contemplative thought on the vocation of marriage.

You are very much in err. Scripture is one of the prime sources for material for contemplation, and is also the basis for the ancient prayer form known as lectio divina.

😃 I don’t think so…

No harm done. Specifically, when it comes to the topic of marriage, I think Scripture works best when it is studied with other books that have researched the vocation. Scripture is the standard: the who, what, when, where, and why. “How” isn’t as readily understood within Scripture. That’s where the Church has taught the rest of us what else we need to know. I do recommend the book I posted above for people thinking about Matrimony. My Dad gave it to me over 8 years ago, and I still have it.

Are you saying that the Bible, the one book that contains the words of my God, isn’t important when talking about marriage. that we shouldn’t look into the pages, searching for what God has to say about marriage? Who gave us marriage? why are so many people married in the church and not by others that are allowed by law to marry people? Most people i think want their marriage blessed by God! How can you expect your marriage to be blessed by God, if you don’t know and study what the Bible says about it?
