Can anyone think of some really good nursing home men's orders?

Since I have spent most of my employment life working with residents with Alzheimer’s Disease in the activities department, I thought I would give consideration to 100% obedient to the Magisterium and bishop orders that work with the elderly with or without disasterous diseases like Alzheimer’s. I might as well go with my strengths. I’ve never done nursing stuff before, though. I don’t know if I am called to a vocation, but I think this teaching English stint is a dead-end job. It was nice to be able to see if I could do it, but it’s not for me.

Being a silly doofus for kids (probably the suffering kinds), if I work with kids in the future, would be more up my alley. Well, I could give some general Catholic ideas, but details are fuzzy and I’m never sure I said it correctly enough. It could be tied with my scrupulosity, as I’m never sure I said things correctly and with the correct intentions when I go to Confession. With any humility in my pridefulness, I am still able to say I’m confident in my ability to be a complete dork for little kids and for the elderly (when I do good-natured parodies of their songs or sing the songs in a silly way for their laughs).

Try this website. It lets you enter in the type of order which you are looking for (including those that work within Health Care). God bless.

Thank and God bl;ess you also! I’m sure it’ll be handy!

Have you considered clowning? There’s an entire field of hospital/nursing home, and even ministry based clowning which sounds like it might be just the kind of thing for you.

Thanks! I don’t think I could do the magic tricks or balloon animals. I do put on funny glasses and stuff and do pratfalls, though. I do silly catches if I do balloon toss and I do other silly things with a balloon before blowing it up and after the air is let out. That’s about as much clowning as I do. I do, though, have other things I do on paper that can be funny, like silly sentences, mad-libs, and having people in pictures saying silly things or drawing silly things happening in newspaper and magazine pages. That’s most of my style, but I do a little improv with props. I like puns, but that can be difficult with foreign learners of English, little kids and people with severe thinking disabilities that affect the language organizing and what-not part of the brain (is that the frontal lobe?). Making parodies of the target group’s favorite songs is fun. It’s odd I never bought more than 2 Weird Al CDs in my 33 years of life.

Anyway, I think something like that with a Catholic religious order (1st or 3rd order, 3rd order claustral oblate preferred over one living in the world) or Catholic Relief Services being my preferred membership.

Despite my conservative arguments here, I have a dorky side. I’ve read that melancholic types can have a silly side that can come out, though you can wear out faster than ootgoing personality types.

One would think that someone with a username of “foolishmortal” already has the essence of a clown in him. In any case, clowning on that level is not so much about all the kinds of funny one does as if it were a performance. Instead, it is often much more about offering a presence and leading one to childlike joy.

Whether one is interested in a religious order or some sort of “secular religious” life is a distinct matter, of course. But I’d encourage you to look into clowning and its ministry/health care possibilities. I’m going to PM you some resources.
