I want to know if God can forgive anything including switching back and forth between religion and terrible unbelief. I just want to be a good Catholic but I feel like I have ruined my chances. I’m pretty sure I do this all because I’m very sick with ocd but if it were up to me I would just be a good Catholic with no terrible sins I have committed. I hope God can forgive me. I just want to love God.

Refusal to repent until death is the only thing that cannot be forgiven.

Get to confession. Holy week is a great time to go.

No matter how bad and sinful we may be we have until our dying breath to repent and be saved. God’s mercy is greater than all our sins.

God is loving and He knows our weakness.
He understands about OCD.
We also don’t have to go it alone.
These obsessive thoughts and worries are tearing you up inside and it doesn’t have to be that way 🙂:pray:t2:🙂
Seek medical help for the OCD
Seek spiritual direction that will help you understand the Father’s love.

I will pray for you!

I will echo Scarlet’s words. God can forgive anything if the sinner repents. God can forgive any number of times.
And OCD is not a sin; it’s a sickness. Go for treatment if you can, and talk to a priest as well.

Did you see our questions to you on the exorcism thread you started

You are Jesus’ sweetie!

That is what a Sister of Life always says to the people she meets, and its so pure and so disarming in her delivery, it makes me literally tear-up. Yes I am. So are you! And her name, Sister Veritas, is latin for truth!

So: Dear sweet heart of Jesus,

Yes, even this, Jesus can and will, and I believe already has, forgiven in you. He asks that we be contrite for our sins, and perfect contrition is that of being sorry for our sins because we love God and are sorry we have offended Him. You already have perfect contrition! I am reading a book called I Believe in Love, by Fr. Jean C. J. D’Elbée, based on the teachings of Saint Thérèse. Fr Jean says:

"I must add that a desire to love is already to love. A great desire to love is already a great love. In the same way that Jesus said to St. Augustine, ‘You would not seek me if you had not already found me,’ He will say to you, ‘You would not have this great desire to love me if you did not love me already.’ He cannot fail to fulfil, beyond even our greatest hopes, a desire that He himself has inspired."

This is my third time reading this book, and it has changed my faith life. I highly recommend it to you. I know many who have read it and found the same. It is very reputable, published by Sophia Institute Press.

When I am particularly stressed about my continued sinfulness and my lack of growth, I remind myself that as long as there is breath in my lungs, God has not given up on me, and as He is perfect, I am not without hope, and as He thirsts for me to love Him back, He is not waiting for me to return to punish me (that is a wicked lie of the enemy), He is waiting for me as the father of the Prodigal Son waits for his lost one. When I have made the decision to turn back, like the father in the parable who runs to meet his son and lavish him and honour him, that son who believes he is worth nothing at all, so does God want us to be instantly reunited with Him. And He takes all of our lost time, and all of our sinfulness, and He does not restore us, but transforms us!! Giving us even more than before. And when a sinner returns to God there is a celebration in Heaven. “Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance” Luke 15:7

Peace of Christ little one,

Rebecca

I may not be theologically perfect here, but I like to consider this all like a parent-child relationship.
The second a child expresses remorse for sins, which I think you have done here, by the way, a loving parent forgives his or her child. There may be some restitution. That child may have to pay for the window he broke. But the forgiveness is already there.
As for the love of God, a child can be away from a parent for years and yet still know that their parent loves them. This assumes that the parents are normal good parents, but should we assume less than that of God?
I think you are loved and forgiven. Go see a priest and tell him your sins, so he will give you any restitution that you may need. And accept the forgiveness of God through the Catholic Church.

Hello from a past apostate.

I left the faith for a short time in the past and by the grace of God was called back to his church. I will thank God everyday until my last breath that I did not fall into a state of final apostasy.

All sins can be forgiven as long as you ask for forgiveness and truly mean it in your heart. As many of the amazing users on this forum told me, think of the story of the prodigal son that Jesus told.

You are the son that was lost and has now been found. Go to confession and you will be forgiven. I too suffer from OCD and also anxiety. God knows this and he knows what is truly in our hearts. 🙂

I always say to myself that god will never forgive for my nasty thoughts And he will send me to hell! But I can’t tell if god forgive me or not? I want his forgiveness:pray:🙏

I ask god for help but god dose not help me! I always cry for help I ask god please help me i dont want these thoughts anymore help me think positive thoughts only

One of the beauties of Catholicism is that anything can be forgiven. I’ve switched religions as well, I’ve questioned the existence of God-one thing I know for sure is that sacrament of confession has provided me with amazing comfort and peace.

Praying for you.

Yes, or course God will forgive anything.

So long as you are repentant and seek forgiveness.

Brianna, not being able to control or stop thoughts from occuring is simply OCD. That is an illness, like any other. Would God punish you for having an illness? Of course not. Just keep trying and work on your OCD with a professional. In the meantime, follow Padre Pio’s advice: “Pray, Hope and don’t worry.”
I have one more thing to say, and forgive me for this if it is way off base. If your thoughts are, say sexual, and maybe they are exciting when they occur, that does NOT make you guilty of anything. We are sexual beings for a reason. If you are acting on those thoughts, try to stop and go to confession regularly. We constantly fail God. But He knows that we are trying and that in itself is pleasing to Him.

Yes I do have these thoughts and sometimes I feel like I think of it on purpose!
