Can anything good come from sinning?

Ok. Let me preface with…sin is bad. We do not want to seek to sin. lol The implication of my title focuses on more of how we have grown towards the Lord, and learned how to be better Disciples, through sin. (because God’s grace pulled us out of sin) I have had instances in my life, where had I not sinned…I might not have been able to help a neighbor, friend, or family member to overcome their sin. (or to avoid it to begin with) God takes our sin, and turns it around for good–for those who seek repentance.

If I were to get a life ‘do over,’ or if there were an eternal rewind button or something…I totally would not have made some of the mistakes I have made in life (that fall into sinful categories) But, because of those sins, I have been able to use those experiences to help others…

So…although, we should strive to avoid sin…do you ever look at your past sins, and think that you are better off having gone through them? (providing you confessed and repented)😉 Have they made you a better follower of Christ?
 
Well…yes.

I guess you could look at it like “I’m certainly not doing THAT again!”.

So, yes, were going to sin, and when we do, we can and should learn from our mistakes (sin) and the mistakes of others.

No; it’s always better not to offend God and our relationship with Him - and with our brothers and sisters. If we have come this far by His mercy upon us in our sinfulness, how much further along would we be if we hadn’t sinned by responding to His offered graces of obedience? 🙂

So, I guess it’s better to have never sinned, than to have sinned and repented. Are we not restored back to childlike innocence (which is what I have read about confession) once we have confessed, and repented? I believe in never offending our brothers and sisters…but if we never did…and if no one ever offended us…how would we ever learn how to be most forgiving and merciful to others? Jesus talked a lot about forgiving our brother when he wrongs us…

In my humble opinion, I think that there can be good brought out of sin. (providing we are repentant) Obviously, nothing good can come while we are caught up in sin. Perhaps, it is in the repentance of sin that we are most affected.:hmmm:

may i ask what word…obedience?:confused:

I look at St Peter as well…his sinning caused him to turn over such a new leaf, that he was hand selected to be our 1st Pope!:o
 
Another point that can be made is that if there is any good that comes from our sin, it does not come from us, but God. So that it’s not like “Well … some good might come from my sin if I do this” but more like “Even after having been a sinner in whatever regard, the Lord was able to still bring something good from it.”

Ultimately the first good that should come from our sin and our confessing and repenting of it should be the renunciation of sin and our ongoing conversion.
 
Romans 8:28 We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
The good Lord can even use evil to bring good to us. Even our sins, while not done to promote a good, can, under the right circumstances, result in bringing us closer to God. Certainly not the best technique, but it can happen.

Only God has the power to bring good results even from our bad actions.
Think of the fall of Lucifer from his place in heaven. Went to tempt Adam and Eve and everyone else since then. Yet God out of His mercy and love for us - brings good results and salvation for those who allow His mercy and love to work in us.

Just look at civil unions and the children from them. When/if these people come back to the Church, what they bring to it. New life. Our Priest joked that the parish just doubled when our family came back to the Church. Tim

That’s the perfect answer, isn’t it?

Many of the people reading these threads will be the result of a serious sexual sin. However their lives are valuable, often they are a comfort to their parents.

That is a very interesting perspective. I think perhaps, it is all perspective, when it comes to this thread. No one would ever say that sin is better than not sinning. But, it would seem that some of my most enlightening moments have come when I was saddened by my own sin. Sin, while it is happening, often doesn’t ‘look’ like sin. We justify our behaviors, words, actions to somehow mean something other than sin. It isn’t (at least I find this to be true for me) until I have immersed myself into my faith…into prayer…and have gone to confession, that I had an inkling, that it was sin that I was doing. It is SO OBVIOUS when I see sin, now. It’s like…wow, that person is really heading down a bad path…or wow, I need to help that person before he/she regrets his/her decision, etc…and I attribute my ‘rebirth’ to God’s grace raining down on me. Without it, we would all be lost…but we must accept His grace. It’s always there for us. It was there for me, when I made mistakes in my life. But, until I reached out to accept it, I would still be sinning. So, a relationship with God is quite interactive. He will not force us to change.

I just marvel at how much good came after people sinned…in the Bible. People that became saints.:o

Sin is an unfortunate thing, but the beauty of Gods mercy is we can let him use our sin to produce wonderful things. Many children (almost a third) are born out of wedlock in america. I am one of them (well, my parents were married when I was born but not when I was conceived, and since life begins at conception…you get the idea 🙂 ) The sin was not a good thing to do, but God can use all things to his glory, including our sins. That’s what is so truly awesome and amazing about our God!!!
 
Avoding sins at all causes; however, sinning is a sign telling us that we need God and we need Him til eternity.
 
Tonight, I read this line on the book “The Imitation of Christ” by Thomas Kempis.

It says “The occasions of sin do not weak anyone; on the contrary, they show the person’s true worth”.

I understand the second part of the sentence, but not the first part.

Could anyone explain further?
