Recently blasphemous thoughts have been popping out of nowhere in my mind. These things pop up suddenly without me even intentionally thinking about them. It’s not my fault at all that these thoughts come up and I want them to stop. I know the devil is behind all of this. I pray to God and asked Him to send St. Michael to protect me and guard me from the evil one. I feel that I want St. Michael to be my guardian angel since these unintentional blasphemous thoughts sometimes keep getting worse and worse.

So is it possible that archangels can be guardian angels as well?

According the breakdown of the choirs of angels, not really. The Archangels belong to a different tier and choir all together.

Besides, you already have a guardian angel, assigned to you since your moment of birth (if not sooner) to be with you for your entire life.

All that aside, we really know very very little about the angels.

Your guardian angel was assigned to you either at conception or at baptism.

But I feel that I need an angel more powerful than my guardian angel because of the problem I’m having. 😦

Ask Our Lady Queen of the Angels to send a reinforcing cohort to assist your Guardian Angel. But don’t give up on your Guardian Angel. He hasn’t given up on you. You might take time to thank him and commend him to The Lord.

Even if Michael isn’t technically your “guardian angel” you can still ask for his aide and protection. Just like a layman can have a devotion to, and ask for the assistance of, St. John Vianney who is the patron saint of priests. The saints don’t turn a deaf ear or fail to aide a fellow brother (or sister) in Christ just b/c they fall outside of their area of patronage.

IOW, pray to St. Michael for aide - he will surely help you and don’t worry about whether he is specifically your guardian or not. Besides, Michael guards the Catholic Church, we are the Church, ergo…

I have heard that the Holy Father’s guardian angel is St. Michael, but as for us, our guardian angels were assigned to us by God. I wouldn’t say St. Michael could be your guardian angel, but do continue to ask for his protection and intercession, we all need his help, say the St. Michael prayer put together by Pope Leo XIII.

No one knows who is whose guardian angel.

You can certainly ask St. Michael’s for help. I often ask St. Michael for help and I often (not often enough) ask my own guardian angel for help. I also ask the guardian angels of those I love to help me, love, understand and care for my loved ones.

I think we would all love to believe that St. Michael is our own personal guardian angel but I strongly suspect that our own angels are given the necessary powers to do God’s will for them and for us.

Many saints have been disturbed by intrusive thoughts that they do not want. Call on our Lord Jesus Christ and His holy Mother when such thoughts enter your mind. By refusing such thoughts and asking the Lord’s help you can be gaining spiritual muscle.

May the Lord continue to be with you on your spiritual journey. May He grant you His perfect peace.

I agree with this.

If you ask your Guardian Angel to let in other angels to help, he (or she) will.

According to some people, there are already always lots of “unemployed angels” floating around ready to help if only somebody asks for them.

God pours forth angels upon the earth unceasingly. You might as well make use of as many as the laws of heaven allow you to use.

Your Guardian Angel is already a very very powerful angel, but it won’t hurt to ask for more. I doubt that you can be too selfish in this regard. If you ask for something that logic would forbid, say, that you want all of the angels in heaven to assist you at once and that includes every angel that God has ever created or ever will create to be employed by you and you alone, than my guess would be that you probably won’t get that, but I don’t think there is any sin involved in so asking.

Take as many as the laws of heaven allow. Your Guardian Angel will not be offended, and he or she will be happy to cooperate with the other angels to help you however they can. 🙂

One other suggestion: this may not be solely an issue of guarding you, but also be an issue of discernment. Besides praying to God for discernment, you might also ask for your Guardian Angel to allow presently unemployed teaching angels to help you learn how to better discern how to get around your problems. 🙂

Your Guardian Angel is helping you in ways you can’t possibly imagine. Pray to him often and thank him. God will allow us to suffer trials at times. Remember that intrusive thoughts are not sinful - not unless you willfully latch onto them and entertain them. Sinful thoughts must be a deliberate choice. That being said, you can certainly invoke St. Michael. He is the guardian angel of the Church itself, if you will, and thus can come to the aid of all of us!

Here is an excellent passage from St. Teresa regarding intrusive thoughts:
We pass through terrible trials, on account of not understanding our own nature and take what is not merely harmless, but good, for a grave fault. This causes the sufferings felt by many people, particularly by the unlearned, who practise prayer. They complain of interior trials, become melancholy, lose their health, and even give up prayer altogether for want of recognizing that we have within ourselves as it were, an interior world. We cannot stop the revolution of the heavens as they rush with velocity upon their course, neither can we control our imagination. When this wanders we at once imagine that all the powers of the soul follow it; we think everything is lost, and that the time spent in God’s presence is wasted. Meanwhile, the soul is perhaps entirely united to Him in the innermost mansions, while the imagination is in the precincts of the castle, struggling with a thousand wild and venomous creatures and gaining merit by its warfare. Therefore we need not let ourselves be disturbed, nor give up prayer, as the devil is striving to persuade us. As a rule, all our anxieties and troubles come from misunderstanding our own nature. - From The Interior Castle, Chapter I

The Archangels may have played a role of a Guardian Angel when it came to Jesus, The Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph. But never underestimate the strength of your Angel. Just because they are the lowest of the 9 choirs it doesn’t make them weak. In fact one Guardian Angel can overpower even the strongest of demons and it smash it into the ground. Remember demons will never ever give up and they will keep on trying to bring you down at any cost until the day you die. Therefor you must fight back at any cost with prayer.

Your guardian angel is powerful enough for the job, but you may ask for, in addition to his help, one of the archangels to protect you also. :angel1:

Agreed. One angel is powerful enough to take care of thousands of souls, yet God, in his providential goodness, assigns to each and every human being, regardless of their dispositions, an angel at birth, an angel to be peculiarly his or her own. :o

Even though God’s infinite goodness is infinitely more prevalent than our infinite wickedness, he and his angels must respect our god-given gift of free-will, which may be used for sinful purposes. In order for our guardian angels have a better handle on us, it may be acceptable to enlist the aid of other benevolent beings, such as Saint Michael, the archangel, or John F Kennedy, one of the few world leaders who actually did his job.

May I suggest praying the Chaplet of St. Michael.

In this Chaplet, you ask for the help and intercession of St. Michael and the nine choirs of angels.

We can pray to the archangels, and ask them to intercede for us. There are great devotions to St. Michael, St. Gabriel, and St. Raphael that can be found on line.
