Can asking your angel what his name is be dangerous?

I’ve read several of the threads on angels but I don’t think this topic has come up. I shared with my family today something I heard a preist say once: You can ask your guardian angel what his/her name is and your angel may answer you. I started wondering…what if a demonic angel used our conversation as a means of manipulating us, ie, what if he told my husband his/her, the demon’s name and that is who my husband is talking to? Am I being paranoid here? I have to share that the name that came to my husband was “Kevin”–which I found at first hilarious (no offense to any Kevins but it’s such an ordinary, friendly name, not other-worldly like one would expect. My fourteen year old has tried to assure me that no demonic force would be named Kevin. I’m laughing here but my question is sincere. Thanks.
ps we all discussed how your angel is not a pet or servant to one’s whims etc. and tried to keep an attitude of respect about our angels.

You are certainly not being paranoid! No offense to your priest, but I think the idea that your angel can tell you his name is a New Age teaching, not a Catholic one. You are quite right to be cautious about this sort of thing. 👍

Yes, absolutely, asking your guardian angels name can be dangerous. I suspect that your Guardian angel is protecting you by giving you these doubts.

Unfortunately for us we are the turf in the middle of a war. Satan would absolutely LOVE to provide a name for you and get you to begin communication with him. You would be wise not to talk to “Kevin” at all because if he is demonic you would be opening yourself up to him and he will take that opening as an invite into your life, your house and your family. This is one way that demonic opression can start. Remember demons wouldn’t be able to have any influence in the world at all if their presense was obvious.

It would be wise to focus on something more important than your guardian angels name and instead expend that energy in prayer or at church.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The links were especially helpful. My husband remembered reading that when your angel helps you, you gain clarity, but if an evil force is at work, there will be confusion. Since I’ve had doubts about this we’re not going to ask any angel his name. Also, I think it’s completely right to direct one’s efforts to prayer itself.
 
I thank God often for giving me my gardian angel. I ask for his intercession often and thank him for putting up with me. I try to remember that he is always present for me and I even ask that if it is acceptable, that he pray with me when I say my rosary. Does that sound strange? I think I remember a program of Mother Angelica’s where she suggested that we actually name our gardian angels. I’m sure they have already been given a name by The Almighty, but I don’t think my angel minds. I have a wonderful angel and I try not to forget that he is always there pulling for me to get to Heaven.
 
Been there, done that, I will never ever again, boy I learned the hard way on that one. Avoid this practice at all cost, you are not communicating with your guardian angel at all. Heed my advice here, I speak from experience, you have opened a door that now needs to be closed.
 
I have never felt the need to ask my GA his name. HOWEVER, I have asked specific Archangels for help and to aid my GA, I have asked my GA to go help and guard and comfort others and have no problem joining with my GA in prayer.

One of the most important things for us to remember is that Satan and his minions are not omnipotent. OUR side is more powerful - we have to remember that and trust that - Jesus, I trust in YOU.

Recently, I have asked St. Michael the Archangel to clear out the evil that may permeate my office. I asked him for help because I work in Law Enforcement and he is the patron saint of law enforcement. My nightly meditation and morning prayers have included the Prayer to St. Michael written by the Holy Father (I say it after Mass as well) and then specifically asking him to go to the office ahead of me and clear the spiritual crapola OUTTA there…and I believe that, eventually, this will reflect in the work environment, the behavior of my clerks and the lessening of tension in the workplace.

I remember hearing this too. And thought it was ok. I have nothing but respect for Mother Angelica.

But this thread is extremely eye opening. I think from now on, I will simply refer to my Guardian Angel as “Angel of God”… or something similar. Thank you, all. God bless.
 
I have never asked for the Angel’s name, but I have given him a name… Peter. When I address my Angel, I call him Peter. A nun in my grade school many years ago said that we can name our guardian angel. I find it helpful when asking for his help.
I hope someday to meet him in heaven, and see if he chuckled a little bit about having a nickname.🙂
