Can attending a prayer service substitute for mass?

I live in a very rural area and attend a parish that only has one priest. Sometimes when I get to mass, I find that the priest is sick and that only a prayer service is being held. The next nearest parish is 50 miles away. Does attending the prayer service fulfill my Sunday obligation?
 
No, a prayer service does not fulfill someone’s Sunday obligation to attend Mass. However, if it is not reasonably possible for someone to get to Mass then their Sunday obligation is abrogated. There is no obligation for those who cannot reasonably attend Mass.
