Can Catholics eat in restaurants on Fridays?

I think Jesus is rolling His eyes again. He would want us to much more follow the Spirit of His Teachings and not so much debate the vagaries of “sackcloth and ashes etiquette”.

But failure to abstain from meat ‘does not rise to the level of mortal sin’, as phrased in the Briefing Notes produced for the press by the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales.

It is not a matter of 'must; but ‘are asked to’. As I’ve said before, our parish here in the UK regularly runs fundraiser evenings on Fridays, which have a meat dish as an option.

No it isn’t. Flagged it.
He was just joking. No need to call the mods.
Yeah as I said it seems I was quick with the flag trigger finger. My bad.

Are you scrupulous?
Yeah, OP, starting to suspect you might have scruples. You’re way overthinking this. This is a non-issue. You can go out to eat on Friday and order whatever you like, apart from meat during Lent.

So my post, an attempt at humor, was removed. Typical CAF snowflakes.

I’m crazy to not have remembered this before, but last Friday I had the best steak I have ever had at the house of a traditional, Catholic priest and university president sitting at the same table as the president, the rector of a seminary, and two seminarians. 😂🤣😂

That’s not uncommon. Parish events outside Lent serve meat on Friday also.

I’m right now having some nice scallops, beets and ricotta at a restaurant.

I live in the US. My parish practices abstinence on Friday’s. And my family often goes to an Asian restaurant for dinner on those days because of the great fish & veggie options. 🙂
