My brother and his wife will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary this August. The entire family is going on a cruise in July and we would like to surprise them with a vow renewal ceremony.

Since I do not know much about the Catholic faith, I wanted to know if there is anything special about a renewal of vows.

Certainly it can be special to celebrate a milestone wedding anniversary with a recommitment by the spouses to their wedding vows. For Catholics, such a renewal of vows ordinarily takes place in a Catholic setting, so perhaps you and your family might arrange with a priest or deacon in the port city to give your brother and sister-in-law the opportunity to renew their vows during a Mass at a church in the port city before the ship sails.
