I am personally opposed to hunting and recently faced a dilemma in some wood signs that I make. I make them with a Maine theme and often put moose on them; however I recently discovered one customer may be into hunting and may be purchasing my products to support their own hunting ventures.
I would like to know the moral view of hunting in Catholicism? I find that hunting moose for example is not a real sport. Moose are too big and do not run. They just stand there and get shot. I find that aspect cruel and proves nothing of the skill of the hunter (except that he risked his life to get close enough to one to shot it)…but even that is lame since many guns will shoot quite far away.
Should I, as a Catholic, thus sell my wood signs to hunters or would-be-hunters? Is it immoral to condone such a hobby? Or is this just a personal preference?
Your answer will help my business ventures. Thanks!
