my girlfriend is a noncatholic. she asked if we were able to get married because of our religious differences. i told her yes the catholic church allows that; she said that her uncle was a catholic but her aunt was a noncatholic and they couldn’t get married in the catholic church because she wasn’t catholic.

has the rules changed about marriage between catholics and noncatholics?

The rules were never against marriage of catholics and non-catholics. Even at the start of the church catholicism allowed for marraige to roman pagans, so long as the morality of the relationship was observed.

For your part, you will have to promise to maintain your catholic faith, and that you will do your best to impart catholicity to any children you may have. Further, you are required to undergo sacrametal marraige, which means Either marriage in a catholic church or convalidation as a minimum.

For her part, she has to indicate that she is aware and understands what your obligation is and that she understands you will attempt to raise your children catholic.

At least, that was my understanding of current practice.
