Can Catholics pray using icons?

I’ll be coming into the Church this Easter, and I have been looking forward to this for a whole year now. Is it all right for Catholics to pray using icons in the same fashion Orthodox Christians do? I come from a Protestant background, so I’m obviously not familiar with icons; but I’m very willing to pray in front of them because I’m well aware that it is not idolatrous. So what saith Rome?

Yes, of course, Catholics may pray using icons. In fact, many Catholics in the Eastern rites of the Church – which are fully in union with Rome – do use icons to facilitate their prayer.
