As an Anglican, I profess that it is by Christ alone that one is granted Salvation. Do Catholics profess this same thing?

Yes Christ alone grants Salvation - But if You think your actions and words and intent have no bearing - You are mistaken

The reason Jesus praised the widow - was not the amount but:

The Act & Intent

Once Saved always saved? - NO
Once an Apostle always an Apostle- Judas

Read the Catechism. Your questions will be answered. When I started reading the Catechism, my questions like this one were answered. Many assumptions I had been taught about Catholicism, the Church etc…well they just were not in the Catechism.

So, read the Catechism.

What a strange question, since Christianity came through the Catholic Church.

Why do you ask? i.e., what prompted the Q?

Peace be with you.

Yes. CCC 1460 says that penances “help configure us to Christ, who alone expiated our sins once for all.” 1 Timothy 2:5-6 says the same: Christ is our Mediator in an utterly unique way, and there is no other name by which we may be saved (Acts 4:12).

At the same time, however, we *participate *in the salvation procured by Christ alone (cf. James 5:19-20; 1 Timothy 2:7; Romans 8:17). We cannot save ourselves, and given our inclination towards sin, nor would we. But we’re also not passive participants in our salvation – we’re actively doing those works God has stored up for us to do. Does this agree with your understanding as an Anglican?

There is a sense in which we can “save” ourselves and others.

Rom 11:13-14 Now I (Paul) am speaking to you Gentiles inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the gentiles I magnify my ministry in order to save some of my fellow Jews.

1Tim 4:16- take heed to yourself and to your teaching hold to that for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.

Obviously Paul wasn’t the savior of the Gentiles or the Jews in the sense that he expiated their sins and reconciled them to God. That was Jesus’ doing. He did save them in the sense that he taught the gospel to them, enabling them to obtain salvation from Christ.

Not only can they - They MUST profess that Christ alone saves…

-Go to any Catholic Mass-

We believe (I believe) in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, and born of the Father before all ages. (God of God) light of light, true God of true God. Begotten not made, consubstantial to the Father, by whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven. And was incarnate of the Holy Ghost and of the Virgin Mary and was made man; was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried; and the third day rose again according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of the Father, and shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, of whose Kingdom there shall be no end.

And (I believe) in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father (and the Son), who together with the Father and the Son is to be adored and glorified, who spoke by the Prophets. And one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We confess (I confess) one baptism for the remission of sins. And we look for (I look for) the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen."

I think the OP is asking- where does the Catholic Church get the right to forgive sins?

Matthew 6:14
[11] Give us this day our supersubstantial bread. [12] And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. [13] And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen. [14] For if you will forgive men their offences, your heavenly Father will forgive you also your offences. [15] But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your offences.

It was a simple question unlike your loaded response.

OMG. You really love to jump to conclusions don’t you? I asked a simple question. I never intended to jump into this.

I’m well aware of the Nicene Creed, hence my name and my denomination in case you weren’t aware.

This is by far the best response yet to my question. As an Anglican, I can in a sense concur with participating with good works, but not in the sense that they have anything to do with me being saved, but rather as a Christ inspired response to being saved.

Thank you. I’m well aware of what the Catechism says. I was interested in hearing what some folks’ responses would be.

As Catholics we have nothing to hide, we are not some secret society with secret oaths. You can pick up a CC at any bookstore, so that you can see for yourself everything we believe. No secrets I promise. 🙂

Good then why did you ask if Catholics profess Christ?

Trying to get cozy with evengelicals?
I didn’t ask if Catholics profess Christ. I asked if Catholics profess that you are saved by Christ alone.

I’m really not too interested in what Evangelicals practice in regard to what I practice and profess as an ACNA Anglican.

And You know the answer - Go to a Catholic Mass - Its called
