Can Catholics use in vitro fertilization?

at my circle yesterday in vitro came up. My Catholic friend denied that it was against our religion, Catholic, to use such a method of fertilization. My other Catholic friend said nothing and my Jewish friend disagreed also. I stood alone on this issue as I have before. I need more information for myself first and then for others, to the Church’s objection for a married, childless couple to use in vitro to have a much wanted and loved child. Thank you
