Can daily mass substitute for the Sunday obligation?

My parish bulletin recently posted the following: “A parent asked if her college daughter’s attendance at a weekday mass would suffice for the Sunday obligation. With permission, of course, and it was readily given.” It was further suggested that others who find the Sunday obligation hard to meet take the same example but be sure to mail in the donation. Does attendance at a weekday mass take the place of the Sunday obligation?
