Can/Do Muslims pray the "Our Father"?

… do Muslims then pray the “Our Father” since Jesus taught us to pray that?

Muslims don’t use the word Father to describe God Almighty. Father means there is a mother , grand pa ,grand ma , grand children etc. God says in Quran : He begets not , nor was He begotten.

Are there any other specific teachings of Jesus that Muslims practice or follow? If so, which ones?

Jesus (p) taught some very important lessons : God is one , God is greater than All. So , Muslims worship one God only & don’t associate partner / don’t take deity with God. We do believe that shirk/blasphemy is the most major sin.

Verily, God does not forgive the ascribing of divinity to aught beside Him, although He forgives any lesser sin unto whomever He wills: for he who ascribes divinity to aught beside God has indeed contrived an awesome sin. (An-Nisaa’ 4:48)

Also , Jesus (p) predicted about another comforter . He told his followers that he will pray to God to send another comforter i.e That Prophet . The way Jews rejected Jesus (p) , Christians rejected That Prophet ( Muhammed , peace be upon him ) but Muslims respect all the Prophets of God Almighty .

The Bible, Mathew 5:17-20

“For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.”**

Muslims do indeed acknowledge and follow the teachings of Jesus (pbuh) by faithfully adhering to the commandments because all of them, with the exception of the Sabbath, is to be found in the Qur’an.

And Muslims follow Jesus (pbuh) in the most profound way possible i.e. by praying in the manner that he himself prayed.

In a book entitled, “To Pray as a Jew”, a lengthy explanation is given of the Prayers as done by the ancient Jews and a few of the contemporary Jews. In this book the author put diagrams showing the movement and positions during the prayer and one quickly realizes the similarity of the prayers of the Jews then and the Salat as practiced by the Muslims.

In his comment about these positions the author wrote : "In most contemporary congregations very few people keep to the tradition of falling prostrate. Sometimes it is only the Prayer leader and the rabbi who does so. In more traditional congregations, however, some worshipers, men and women, will join the Prayer Leader and rabbi in the act of prostrating themselves.

In Israeli synagogues, the practice is more widespread than in synagogues elsewhere. Since this is a position that we are unaccustomed to, one who has never done this before might very well demur. But once accomplished, the experience provides such a spiritual uplift that one looks forward to repeating it.

It is also interesting to learn from this book that the prayers of the Jews involve wash before the prayers, (like Wuduu or ablution for Muslims), and the call for Prayers (like the Azan for the Muslims).

I have never

said that everything that is found in the Bible is wrong or corrupted. i was talking **only **about the Lord’s prayer. Your first post was aimed to say that Muslims don’t pray it since it is an “addition” by the church and hence is not authentic or is doubtful, but when your prophet quotes something strikingly similar, the addition becomes authentic even if “added” by the church.

And I am always open for correction BTW…

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was taught by the Archangel Gabriel and there is a good reason why the “Lord’s prayer” was not one of the things that was taught to him.

In the international news magazine, Newsweek, which carried an article entitled ‘O Lord, Who Wrote Thy Prayer?’, a group of theologians from the major Protestant sects, along with noted Roman Catholic Biblical scholars in the United States, after a detailed examination of the earliest manuscripts of the New Testament, concluded that the only words of the “Lord’s prayer” that can be accurately attributed to Jesus Christ is “father”. That is, according to these learned church scholars, all the words that came after the beginning phrase, “Our father”, of the most fundamental Christian prayer, were added centuries later by church scribes who copied the early manuscripts of the Gospels.

Will Islam let those scientist do the same examination of Quran? For instance, whether the present Quran is from Muhammad or from Uthsman?

It is hard to believe you.How can you be the real followers of Jesus when you follow only one of his teachings but trangress the rest with great impugnity?

For one, Jesus called God, Father. If Muslims are his true followers why don’t you do the same?

Because by mentioning Isa, already means the Father and His spirit. What do you mean other deities?

Since they are the same, the answer would be an obvious yes.

The Word was there before the foundation of the world. He has no beginning and no end. He is the first and the last, the Alpha and the Omega.

The man Jesus was like any one of us in his humanity - he was born and he died. The divine Jesus is God and so yes, He is meant to be worshipped and to be praised because all good things comes from Him.

It cannot be done. Jesus is the Word per the Gospel of John.
