Hi I just joined and I have a question that has bothered me for a while. I see on the internet a lot of Catholics saying that drums aren’t fit for worship. A lot of times they say its because they weren’t mentioned in the Bible, but other people talk about how translations of the Bible vary and so it is in the Bible. Most of these say they aren’t fit for worship, but what about just playing for fun? Please answer and honestly and thank you so much!! 😃

Drums can indeed be played for fun and secular music. There is nothing wrong with that.

As for liturgy:

Sacrosanctum Concilium
  1. In the Latin Church the pipe organ is to be held in high esteem…
…But other instruments also may be admitted for use in divine worship, with the knowledge and consent of the competent territorial authority, as laid down in Art. 22, 52, 37, and 40. This may be done, however, only on condition that the instruments are suitable, or can be made suitable, for sacred use, accord with the dignity of the temple, and truly contribute to the edification of the faithful.
General Instruction of the Roman Missal
  1. …While the organ is to be accorded pride of place, other wind, stringed, or percussion instruments may be used in liturgical services in the dioceses of the United States of America, according to longstanding local usage, provided they are truly apt for sacred use or can be rendered apt.
The drum is considered a percussion instrument so it is permitted in the USA provided that it is used in a manner suitable to sacred liturgy.
