I didn’t even have to read the article to know the answer to this question.

This is probably what those people are thinking:
Yes that’s right we can make this hypthesis true!!! Yes we will be able to use babies to save others with diseases and not give the babies a chance to live!!! (sarcasm).

The article in question doesn’t actually say no, just that another way has been found. Stem cells do not have to come from embryos, so I do not understand why the author felt a need to put “embryonic” in the title; especially when the author never answers the question.

Where else can they get stem cells from?

There are adult stem cells and research with them has shown great promise to treat many diseases. Adut stem cell research is ok with the Church and our best bet to produce the cures that they say will come from embryonic stem cells.

Exactly! Stem cells are just cells that “program” other cells to do specific jobs. Embryonic stem cells have been used in the past because they have so many of them. (Embryos require stem cells in order to create the cells that will become kidney, heart, liver, muscle cells, etc.) You can also get them from unused or unwanted umbilical cords, adults, and from what I understand, scientists are working on ways to take cells and “reprogram” them to function like stem cells. Embryonic stem cell bans upset scientists because it was the cheapest way to get a lot of stem cells. This however, does not excuse murder. The fact that there is another way is yet another reason to not worry about stem cell research bans and the supposed effects it would (or has) had on medical research. Where there is a will, there is a way.
