Why?

Evidence of you’re position.
Well God says in the Bible that he is all knowing.

“Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.” (1 Samuel 2:3)
*
“And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. 20For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and** knoweth all things**.”* (1 John 3:19-20)

Thus if God is omniscient, then he can never be wrong. Because he knows everything.

This is of course, presuming that you believe in the God of the Bible, and see the Bible as authoritative, which I do.

Yes, God could not be wrong. Christ was called the truth in the Bible. God also created everything. How could He be wrong. That would be like say that Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa wrong.

Well He’s omniscient meaning He knows all so how can He be wrong?

God bless,

David

No. Some may say; then why is there evil. God created lucifer who started off good and had a free will. He went south. God can do no wrong, but those he created and were given free will can be wrong.

Do you mean morally wrong or cognitively wrong, as in making a cognitive error? I would say no in either case, particularly the first, which is based on benevolence rather than omniscience. In fact, I heard a theologian (not sure whether he was Catholic) who claimed that G-d is not necessarily omniscient because that would imply knowledge of all possible imaginary scenarios of the universe (or multiverse), some of which are quite irrelevant to the functioning of them. I don’t recall whether his argument referred to an eternal knowledge or a temporal knowledge.

I think the question is irrelevent. What is right or wrong in relationship to God? Categories of right and wrong are relevant only in relation to human beings. It is only from a human perspective that the categories make sense. Right and wrong, it seems to me, only measures the proximity of our action to God’s will. God’s will simply is. The actions which either draw us towards God or separate us from God can be labeled right or wrong, but not the will of God itself.

Virtually every heresy or misunderstanding about God comes about from a wrong understanding of who exactly God is, and what His exact attributes are. When we minimize those in any way, we are way off the mark. We are comparing God to ourselves.

God made man in His own image, and man has been returning the favor ever since.

God is all Truth, no falsehood can exist in the Truth, so by nature God can never be wrong since He IS Truth.

analogously I cannot be a snail because by nature I am a human and one cannot be both a snail and human.

Can someone explain (Genesis 6:6):
“The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.”

The replies have been enlighting.

The early consensus seems to be that God cannot be wrong. What is amazing is the varity of reasons provided so far.

God Bless,
Pat

Here’s another one.

Hebrews 6:18
That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

Heb.6:18 says it is impossible for God to lie. I asked myself why? Why is it impossible for God to lie? I think the answer lies in the fact that God is the creator. Whatever comes out of His mouth either is or comes into being. So whatever He says comes into being, is the truth, and cannot be a mistake because the mouth of God has declared it.
