Can God punish my family?

More specifically, can God punish my family because of me? Say for instance, I did a mortal sin which is only involves me. Would he punish my family in some way (for e.g. dragging on financial situations) in order to make me rethink what I do? So if I stop that sin then in turn he will show some mercy on my family?
I’m not trying to make God sound like a tyrant but sometimes I feel this might be happening. But I’m not familiar with how God chooses our penances if we don’t choose them ourselves.
Any “punishment” God might give is restorative in nature, or it isn’t punishment at all but suffering that still serves a purpose. Jesus suffered and he was an innocent man, and “no servant is greater than his master”. Whatever happened to Jesus will also happen to us.

Since masturbation distorts one of the most intimate relationships if you are single you are hurting others with the sin too. Parents, friends siblings. Think of it like this. If a priest (who is single) sins like this right before Mass, it hurts his relationship with both God, (because he offended Him) and the people at Mass who are unaware they are affected. But they are affected because relationships are damaged between God and man, and between humans.

Good point. Do you (or anyone) have sources that touch on the topic of the ripple effect of sin? I’m curious how it implements itself. I’m not denying that sins like masturbation break the relationship between God and man; I want to know ‘how’ that sin ripples into affecting the family. Or is it completely mysterious until the end of time?
