Can God still bless my deceased parents?

My parents passed away many years ago during the time I had left the Church so I didn’t have a priest give them the sacrament of Anoitning of the Sick just before their death.
Since I have came back into the Church, I worry about my parents salvation…I feel I have failed them miserably.
Can God bless them even thoough they are already deceased?
How do I pray to God for this blessing?

Dear Kayla,

The salvation of your parents does not depend upon reception of the “Anointing of the Sick.” It is a wonderful benefit to have this, for they may go to confession and receive their Viaticum. But if they were in the state of grace and living their lives in communion with Christ, doing His will, you need not worry about failing them.

You might keep them in prayer in case they are still in purgatory, which we can do at every mass we attend. There is a part in the Eucharistic prayer after the consecration in which we pray for our deceased loved ones, as well as in the Prayers of the Faithful, under our “personal intentions.”

If they are in purgatory, ask them to intercede for you as well. They are able to pray for us, I believe.

“Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy.”
