My daughter is wanting to get her baby of 7 months baptized. She has asked an Eastern Orthodox couple to be the Godparents. It wasn’t until recenlty that she was told they couldn’t be Godparents. I understand that anyone in the Eastern Orthodox Church can receive Communion in the Catholic Church, therefore, why wouldn’t they be allowed to be Godparents? They understand that they share in the responsibility of making sure my granddaughter would be raised in the Catholic faith. I am not sure why there is a problem. This couple lost their son in a motorcycle accident 4 years ago and have grown very attached to my daughter and her 7 month baby. My daughter was a good friend of their son’s and thinks very highly of this couple… she loves them very much. She wants them to be the Godparents of her child. is there anyway that this can be done?
