I came across a thread on here how there was a council a long time ago that forbid the re-baptism of heretics

here is the link forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=735464

I was once a heretic. I was a catholic who converted to protestant…and I came back to the church…does that mean I can’t be saved anymore…since i’m not allowed to be rebaptized?

A person can only be baptized once as it leaves an indelible mark on our soul. If we sin by leaving the Church or otherwise, we need the Sacrament of Penance to be returned to grace.

Its noted of saints they could be called anything, and they would not argue, they would agree.
But that of a Heretic. No person of knowledge of what Heretic is and to Love God as we should would ever want tobe thought or called a heretic.

saul was a heretic, blind, and he came to be Paul, and open to God.

No it does not mean that.

To repent of sin after baptism, one goes to confession.

Baptism leaves an indelible mark on the soul, so there is no such thing as being “rebaptized.” Where did you get the idea you needed to be?

Yes, heretics can be saved. Heretics can even become saints.

What that is saying is that a heretic, who left the Church, and wants to return, would not be allowed to be “re-baptized” to forgive their sins, because you can only be (validly) baptized once. As the others have said, if one has already been baptized, they must go to Confession and repent to forgive their sins.

Everyone, I believe, including false prophets, heretics, and just doubters, if seriously repented and partakes in the sacraments, and follows Jesus in their lives has a chance at everlasting glory.

Some Christians apostasized under the persecution of emperor Decius.

There was a bit of controversy amongst the prelates of the Church about re-admitting the apostates back in after the persecution ended, i.e. were they sincere and repentant or should they be shunned for recanting the faith.
