Can I ask two men to be godparents to my child?

My Catholic parish will not allow my wife and I to select both of our respective brothers to be the godfathers for our baby boy. Why?

Here is the requirement of the Code of Canon Law on the matter of baptismal sponsors:
One sponsor, male or female, is sufficient; but there may be two, one of each sex (canon 873).
While you need not invite a woman to be a godmother to your child and may simply have one man be the child’s godfather, if you have two godparents then they must be a man and a woman.
