Can I attend more than one church?

I am a confirmed Catholic, and I attend church every week with my family. I am a musician for my church, as well as for a different church. This church is non-denominational, and I play music for them 1 to 3 times a month. Is it okay for me to do this while attending Saturday night mass at my church when necessary?
 
Just need that Catholic mass at vigil or on Sunday every week!
 
AS a Church musician I get offers of these type jobs all the time.
Eventually they want to “convert” you to their church. This can be a problem for a young Catholic.
I steer clear of those gigs. Not worth it. My church is my church, and I prefer to spend all my energy at my own liturgy.
It’s not about the music. It’s about the liturgy.

The Vigil Mass fulfills the Sunday obligation, so it’s ok.

I am good friends with the music director and his son, and they respect my catholic faith and they aren’t trying to convert me to their church.

When you say “when necessary” this doesn’t mean that you won’t be fulfilling your Sunday obligation, does it?
 
You should ask your priest, he knows you better than anyone here on the forum. I would take his advice.

As long as you don’t take communion with them because yoiu are a member of the
Catholic community.

I agree with Crusaderbear’s post.

As long as you attend Mass and fulfill your weekly weekend Mass obligation, you can then attend another service at a different church.

I used to do this.

I would go with one of my cousins to her Methodist church when I would visit her. I would go to the Saturday evening Mass at my parish, and then go with her to her Sunday morning church service.
 
Generally speaking, I think that there is nothing wrong with being a musician for a Protestant church, provided that they are not actively anti-Catholic. You might ask your pastor his opinion.
 
I tend to disagree with other posters on this thread. I do not think it wise at all for a Catholic to assist in protestant services. For one thing, every protestant service seems to include some level of proselytizing, so you are helping them try to draw new members, possibly from the Church. . More concretely, it is a cause for scandal. . Many people may not know you are going to Saturday night mass. The assumption will be that you are leaving the Catholic faith for theirs. . This is especially problematic if any catholics happen to attend.

I thing it’s wrong, but please discuss it with a priest.

But it’s ok for a Catholic Church to employ a Protestant musician for Mass? It is done all the time.

Yes, to disastrous effect.
A person with no concrete knowledge of Catholic liturgy does no service to that worshipping community. They may be lovely people, talented, etc. But the Church should court excellence. Not just anyone who can play or sing.

Regular attendance at a protestant service presents several a couple of potential problems in my mind:danger to one’s faith : danger to one’s faith, cause for scandal

Furthermore, if one is not only attending, put is assisting in the service, such as a musician, it adds the fact that one is cooperating with the proselytizing of another faith (not to mention the risk of scandal is significantly increased).

All of these are enough that one should not attend a Protestant service on a regular basis. The only exception to this, that I can imagine, is the case of a mixed marriage where the couple attends mass together, but the non-Catholic spouse also wants to them to attend his/her church service. Even this, while I can understand at times, is not advisable in my mind when children are involved as one increases (significantly) the risk of them not being Catholic.

Since everyone else things its all ok, may I ask you all: what are the benefits to doing so that outweigh the risks?

Let me add one more (as one who has attended a Protestant service a few times): it wastes valuable time on Sundays. I find Protestant church services to be quite a beating: ie lets singe a few hymns, read something out of the Bible (not much rhyme or reason as to how much or what the reading is), and then lets listen to an exceedingly long sermon, oh boy lets sing some more hymns and then listen to a youth minister for a while before singing a couple more hymns.
