Does anyone here who might identify as “liberal” know if liberals would love and accept me just as I am if I only accept some of their beliefs while rejecting others that I don’t feel are for me?

For example, I love trees and animals, especially dogs.

But, I hate abortion. I don’t believe or feel that the government should force anyone to pay for contraception or abortions, and I don’t believe it should be legal.

I strongly disagree with so-called same-sex “marriage”. I don’t believe or feel that marriage should be redefined to be other than one man and one woman.

I feel that guns shouldn’t be taken away from honest, mentally healthy people who obey the law. But, I feel that the guns should be taken away from the street gangs.

I don’t agree that human embryo experimentation or human cloning should be legal.

I don’t believe or feel that doctor assisted “suicide” should be legal.

I don’t believe or feel that the government should force anyone to give to government approved charities. Because, as the bible says, “Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” - 2 Corinthians 9:7

But, I like dogs and trees.

Pax Christi!

You sound like a Catholic!

This is good. Don’t worry about what labels others try to put on you. Many liberals will condemn your (and my) stand on sexual/medical ethics, and many conservatives will disapprove of the Church’s concern for social justice and the environment.

Yes, you can have Catholic views. Everyone has the right to agree with me. Go right ahead!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Hi Livingwordunity,

I once took an ideological test and came out mostly conservative but also somewhat liberal in some areas. I like animals and trees and nature. Conservationism. I think the National Parks are one of the best things about America. (for the record, I like cats just as much as dogs). I don’t think those are necessary liberal stands, but they tend to be identified as such. Back in the day, being a liberal mostly meant liberal economically, as there was mostly a consensus on social issues. The consensus ended during the 60’s which is too bad.

Sorry. Unless you don’t approve of the unborn, marriage between one man and one woman only, and the Tea Party, the liberals won’t want you. 😉

A Texas politician, one of the Hightowers I believe, was once asked if he were liberal or conservative famously answered “It depends on the issue.”😉

It would be a lot easier to love and accept you without your penchant for provocation and your all-consuming need to be in the right, all the time! 😛

By the way, just exactly how do you love trees, animals and dogs? You’re not looking to redefine marriage in some bizarre way, are you? (provided, of course, that the genders aren’t the same)

Merry Christmas.

Seriously though…almost all the time when you meet someone who is a cat lover they are a liberal. What’s up with that?

I will be nice and not say I hate cats…but I do not care for them at all.

I do however love my 2 dogs : )

Dogs, since they tend to run in packs and follow the leader, are more easily trained for unquestioning obedience, like conservatives. 🙂

Now its time for me to listen to my favorite traditionally liberal Christmas carol, John Lennon’s* Happy Xmas (War is Over)* - it always sends a chill down my spine when Yoko joins in the chorus. Like nails on a blackboard.

Peace

lol cute!

I like bunnies and cats. Where does that leave me?

Seriously, great thread! I have never fit into either camp. If I have to label myself, I say I’m an Independent, which pretty much brings us back to square one.

I follow what I learned in the Baltimore Catechism growing up as a kid, and expanded upon with learning Church teaching from the CCC, Papal writings, and other reliable Catholic sources.

Now if only my dream political party would come into being and garner enough success to be a real threat to the Coke or Pepsi choices in the polling booth :banghead: I’d be one happy lady! :curtsey:

Conservatives like bunnies… for hunting!
Cats are too aloof and non-conformist for many, but perfect for Independents.

I like that song too. I guess I must be a closet widow.

(or was John Lennon a closet conservative?

I was so tempted to post my bunny hunting photo but I didn’t want to offend the vegans.

And you don’t want to tick me off either - I’ll find out where you live and make you watch “Night of the Lepus” until you’re properly terrified by rabbits! 🍿 😛
