Can I be godfather to an Anglican child?

I was an Anglican (Anglo-Catholic) before being received into the Catholic Church and am godfather to the two sons of a couple in my former parish. These parents are expecting a third child and it is possible they may ask me to be godfather once again. Would there be any impediment to me accepting this responsibility?

Because you are now a Roman Catholic, you cannot promise to help raise a child in a non-Catholic faith. Therefore, you cannot be this child’s godfather. However, should the parents wish it and should their pastor be amenable, you could stand as a Christian witness to the child’s baptism because the Catholic Church will presume the baptism to be valid. A member of the parents’ religion will have to stand as the child’s godparent.
