Can I be in a state of Mortal Sin and still receive graces from the Lord?

I’ve been receiving great graces, confirmations from the Lord by extension of certain events taking place.

But I know that I may be in Mortal Sin.

Are these grace legitimate? These confirmations of God?

Of course. God doesn’t deal with us according to what we actually deserve. But get to confession ASAP!

I would also say yes- the Lord drew me to the Church while I was yet deep in sin- but Jesus told St. Faustina that sin obstructs His graces (probably because by sinning you are not cooperating fully with His graces) so definitely go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation and get that straightened out. 🙂

From personal experience as well, I would say God can and does do whatever He wants to.

Zelda, do you happen to know if you have anyone praying for you?

God’s grace is the only way we can repent, so yes we still can receive graces while in a state of mortal sin. God is incredibly generous like that.

One thing to be careful of though - and this is something St. Ignatius of Loyola wrote about in his Spiritual Exercises - is that when we are in mortal sin, we basically are in the devil’s camp. What this means is he will be trying to keep us from repenting by giving us comforts and even some joys so that we feel no need to repent. Comforts that could even feel like they are from God. Which is frightening to be honest, but from experience I know it’s true.

Not trying to say this is what is happening in your situation, since I don’t know the details, I just wanted to mention that. We have to be careful when we are in mortal sin because the devil is going to use all his tricks to try and keep us there. That’s why it’s best to get to confession ASAP.

Bottom line: yes we can receive graces from God while in mortal sin, but these graces are always meant to lead us to confession and repentance.

Will keep you in my prayers.

If one is in a state of mortal sin one cannot receive any sanctifying grace since they are spiritually dead. However, one is still able to receive actual grace in order to help them move to repentance and the sacrament of confession, or if not Catholic, to become Catholic. An example of actual grace would be hearing a sermon at Mass and being inspired by it to go to confession, or attend a beautiful Mass and through its beauty come to the realization that the Church is the one true Church, or even something as mundane as ending up on the weird part of YouTube and watching a suggested video on something like the incorruptibles and believing what the Church teaches, etc.
