The short of it:
If you received cash for dog walking or babysitting for example as part of self employment, then you should include the amount on your Schedule C.
I was a tutor in high school and college, paid in cash (below the threshold for FICA taxes). I simply reported that money as “other income” on my 1040 and paid the applicable taxes.
This is not legal.advise just common sense advice:
No, it’s not sin. You are just stealing from yourself. You are letting your boss abuse you. Does your boss own a house, car, workplace? Legally? She pays taxes for that. She does.not want to pay taxes for you. So it’s not a problem of her being poor just of her not wanting to pay taxes for you. How does this affect you?
you can not use her refference as work experience later on in life;
you don’t accumulate work experience for retirement or social aid; as far as the world is concerned, you haven’t worked because you are not registered;
you probably feel in debt to this boss because it’s your first job; probably feel she is the only one who would hire you; think about it - if she did not care about your work, would she offer to register half your work? You are not as worthless as you may think you are. You work because your work is needed. You are not doing this boss a favor.
The other members at your church who get paid tax free are also being stolen from.
Talk with your parents on this one.
Don’t feel guilty. Just get smart about all the advantages you get from your work.
