Can I be sinless? I know that God is sinless but can I be sinless?

i think the only humans that are sinless are in Heaven. We are still on earth and we are not perfect. we may strive to achieve such a state but ultimately weather we achieve it is up to God, then again, i don’t know for sure. Feel free to correct me.

Are you saying that Mary wasn’t sinless when she was on earth?

If one is Catholic, then one can look up in the most recent addition of the Catholic Catechism to discover what the Catholic Church’s definition of sin is and judge for yourself. If anyone has the green Catholic Catechism, it would be helpful if you could look it up and let us know.

Not getting much of a response so I’ll have to reply to myself 😛

If Mary can be sinless then so can I.

If you think not then why not?
Just my thoughts…

Mary, through her spousal relationship with the Holy Spirit from the moment of her conception, was saved with a special grace that kept her sinless.

So, unless you are chosen to give birth to the Son of God, I don’t believe you have the necessary grace to be sinless.

How do you know that God hasn’t given me a “special grace” to be sinless? Also where do you get this idea/theory about “special grace” to be sinless?

Everyone is given the necessary grace to be sinless, if they ask for it. The better question is: do you really want to be sinless? For most of us the answer, although we won’t admit it perhaps, is that we don’t.

So you believe Mary could and did but not me?
The Immaculate Conception
490 To become the mother of the Savior, Mary "was enriched by God with gifts appropriate to such a role."132 The angel Gabriel at the moment of the annunciation salutes her as “full of grace”.133 In fact, in order for Mary to be able to give the free assent of her faith to the announcement of her vocation, it was necessary that she be wholly borne by God’s grace.
491 Through the centuries the Church has become ever more aware that Mary, “full of grace” through God,134 was redeemed from the moment of her conception. That is what the dogma of the Immaculate Conception confesses, as Pope Pius IX proclaimed in 1854:
Code:
The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin.135
492 The “splendor of an entirely unique holiness” by which Mary is “enriched from the first instant of her conception” comes wholly from Christ: she is “redeemed, in a more exalted fashion, by reason of the merits of her Son”.136 The Father blessed Mary more than any other created person “in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” and chose her “in Christ before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless before him in love”.137
493 The Fathers of the Eastern tradition call the Mother of God “the All-Holy” (Panagia), and celebrate her as “free from any stain of sin, as though fashioned by the Holy Spirit and formed as a new creature”.138 By the grace of God Mary remained free of every personal sin her whole life long.

Noooo…I believe that Mary could and did, and that perhaps you could but didn’t.
You believe Mary was sinless even though you have no evidence for it and yet you are so sure I can’t be sinless.

When did I say that I think that you can’t? I’ve three times very clearly and specifically conceded the theoretical possibility that you could live the rest of your life without commiting a sin.

If you wish to have a meaningful exchange, then it would be helpful if you actually listened to what people tell you.

You said “perhaps you could but didn’t”, you are clearly saying that I can’t be sinless. However you believe Mary was sinless even though you have no evidence for this.

If I said “you can’t be sinless”, then it would be perfectly clear that that’s what I was saying.

But I never said that. I pefectly clearly said something else.

Based on our exchange so far, I don’t see why anyone could take seriously your other assertion about what evidence exists to support Mary’s sinlessness. You don’t give any indication that you are very skilled at evaluating evidence.

Can I be sinless? I know that God is sinless but can I be sinless?
Please, people. I’ve seen enough traps on these forums to recognize them. I’m even guilty of having laid out a few of my own, in the heat of battle.

While I agree with what I assume is this guy’s point (that it’s impossible for a person to be sinless), I do no agree with the way it’s made…
